This shows that Lil cares enough to try to help doug get called on to answer a question. Then in chapter six, while Doug and Lil were in science class, Doug got called on by the teacher to answer a question and this is what happened, “”Doug Swieteck?” Mr. Ferris asked. “The moon shot,” whispered Lil. “The moon shot,” I said. “Thank you, Lil Spicer. Yes, the moon shot…””(222). This shows that Lil will answer a question for Doug …show more content…

The novel that I am reading is “I’m Not Her” by Janet Gurtler. It is about the struggles a young girl, named Tess, goes through when she finds out that her sister, Kristina, was diagnosed with cancer. Tess has always been looking up to her older sister, because her sister was always the center of the crowd, sporty, beautiful one and Tess was always the smart, un-popular one. It was always hard on Tess, so when her sister was diagnosed with cancer, she felt as if she could finally be known. All of Kristina’s friends started befriending Tess, now that her sister wasn’t at school. Although Tess loved the popularity, she did have a lot of trouble too. Not a lot of people were asking how Tess was doing about the whole cancer situation but there was one person who was always there for her. His name was Clark. After talking days upon days with him, Tess began to want to be more then friends with him. But Tess also knew that she had to be there for her sister and didn’t have time to have a serious love life at that point in time. Then Tess met a boy from school named Jeremy. Jeremy has a little crush on Kristina, but is also now good friends with Tess. Tess was wondering why he would always talk about Kristina, and then he finally informed her that he always hangs out with her at the hospital when he is visiting his mother, who also has cancer.…

In this book, the main character had to go through a lot of internal and external conflicts throughout the book. Some of the internal conflicts the main character, Alex, had to face include keeping his mental strength that allowed him and his two sisters to stay alive. Some external conflicts include how Alex had to deal with his two sisters and make them do what he says since he was the next in charge of the family after their parents are gone and his older brother, Carlos, in the marines. I personally dont like the ending of the book. Why does Alex sister, Brianna, have to die? My favorite character in this book is Kevin. Even though Kevin died at a part in this book, he was a thoughtful person for Alex. Kevin always gave Alex food that he didnt need and helped him get one more bag of food at the food line every morning. After reading this book, I learned that making more friends will make a lot of difference once you are stuck in a difficult situation. I will recommend this book to any people that are interested in catastrophic situation.…

In his novel The Chosen, Chaim Potok provides such a character: a sweet, innocent boy named Billy who has a sad story. Throughout his small part in the book, Billy demonstrates joy in the midst of blindness and a rough family situation. While recovering from his injury in the hospital, the young boy makes a lasting impression on Reuven, the main character, with his kind heart and sunny personality. Even though he could choose to turn angry or bitter over the sad events of his life, Billy decides to display kindness, optimism, and innocence during his stay in the hospital.…

The book focuses on three friends: Sampson Davis, George Jenkins, and Rameck Hunt. These three students all met at the “University of High School” during this time they made a friendship pact to get through life itself. All three kids grew up as members of low income families so it was very hard to get the things they wanted. Every time one of these kids were to get in trouble I would think positive for them because I like these characters. Their story can help inspire others with a similar problem. All three are the same to me, they are all very kind but can also take charge when needed. There were many hardships they managed to slip by but others were so grateful. There were times that they wanted to give up but they didn't and successfully made it through to be doctors.…
