Success In The Great Gatsby

Success is setting goals and being at peace knowing you competently completed them. In The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald uses success as being wealthy because it would help the main character, Gatsby, get the girl of his dreams, Daisy. He threw huge parties to show off his wealth, lied about his past and disowned his family, and died chasing after his dream girl. Instead he should’ve been telling the truth about his past, creating bonds to make friendships last, and pursuing the true happiness of living a rich lifestyle. In the beginning, Gatsby threw parties for a reputation of being pecunious and showed off his wealth, instead he should’ve made meaningful relationships. At his parties he would have his “Rolls-Royce” as an omnibus (39). He would also have “orchestra” and “gypsies” (40-41). In conclusion, Gatsby is wealthy but overall not successful and doesn’t pursue the right definition of success. Wealth causes many antagonistic events to happen for him. Although he is wealthy and shows off his prized possessions he still doesn’t have any friends that accepts him for who he truly is.
