Over time, the amount of people forced into human trafficking have been steadily increasing. Although it is considered a worldwide crisis, many people are not aware of the growth in numbers nor take any form of notice or action against this illegal business. There are many factors that contribute to the lack of prevention of this crisis, though the fact that it is well-hidden is the main reason of its continuation. The invisibility of modern day slave trade leads to victims being overlooked in the continuation of trafficking across the globe.…

One example is the Trafficking Victims Protection Act that the United States passed. This act prohibits sex and labor trafficking. In India, anti-trafficking units are used to stop human traffickers (Muse). While there are things being done to combat the issue, there are things that we can do as…

Slavery was abolished 150 years ago and yet there are more people in slavery today than in any other time in our history. Women and children all around the world search and hope for a better life. Some take that dream as far as to travel across oceans in pursuit of that goal. Unfortunately, these women and children usually fall victim to groups and companies who exploit and condemn them into slavery known as human trafficking. Human trafficking involves smuggle illegal citizens from other world countries and submitting them into forced processes such as prostitution, child labor, labor forces, and many others. Human trafficking is the second highest crime rate in America short of drug crimes. It’s a horrendous profit marketing that targets poorer country citizens.…

The most well-known example of slavery to most Americans is the Transatlantic Slave Trade, which brought millions of African American people to the New World to be slaves. However, not even the 13th amendment can put an end to slavery. In 2005, the International Labour Organization estimated that between 980,000 and 1.2 million children are victims of human trafficking (“Combating Human Trafficking”). These children came from 127 countries and were recruited by a promise of a better life (“Combating Human Trafficking”; “Child Trafficking”). Human trafficking is an international concern which demands more initiative to bring it to an end.…

Alas, no gender, age, nor ethnicity is exempt from the global crisis of human trafficking. However, the victims are not dispersed evenly throughout the planet. The International Labour Organization (ILO) has concluded that the over half of all trafficked persons, for a total of 11.7 million slaves, come from the Asia-Pacific region. Meanwhile, the highest rates of people trafficked per thousand inhabitants exists in Central and Southeastern Europe (depicted in light blue) and Africa regions (depicted in tan), both having a rate of over four trafficked persons for every one thousand inhabitants (“Statistics on Forced Labour…”). Though the United States of America has one of the lowest rates of human trafficking worldwide, slavery still poses…

Sex trafficking holds no boundaries when it comes to children, men, women, geography, or race. The Polaris Project states “Traffickers lure and ensnare people into forced labor and sex trafficking by manipulating and exploiting their vulnerabilities”. By promising high salaries, relationships, or thrilling adventures, traffickers lure victims in with ease (Polaris). Unfortunately, most of the time this is not the case. Victims are constantly lied to and forced into an industry that is very dangerous. It is important to raise awareness for human sex trafficking to save the lives of many men, women, and children. Human traffickers are monstrous in the sense that they take away a victim’s freedom and invade and destroy many victims’ bodies. By educating communities on the details and technicalities of sex slavery the popularity of the industry has a chance to decrease. It is up to society to have a voice for victims that do not have their own and to advocate for those who are still suffering. This present day slavery needs to be addressed and taught to communities throughout the…

Albeit the fact that slavery was banned by several international agreements and treaties, beginning with the Slavery Convention of the League of Nations (1926), for tens of millions of people worldwide, slavery never ended. Estimately, there is still 27 million people held in “some form of bondage”, based on anti-slavery groups like Free the Slaves. Slavery is particularly prevalent in today’s Sudan, India, Pakistan, and Ukraine; a humongous number of sex-trafficking victims are also transported to the U.S. and Japan every year. Human trafficking is now a $12-billion-a-year global industry. According to the article, kidnapping is the most common means for today’s traffickers to obtain people, in addition, victims are very likely to be lured by promising jobs. But the reality is that they are forced to work as bonded laborers. Lots of victims are also “tied to lifetime servitude because their father or grandfather borrowed money they couldn’t repay”. To prevent slaves from escaping, traffickers keep victims’ passports and use violence.…

So far I’ve established a basis of healthcare and education as building blocks to ending sex trafficking. But all the access to healthcare and education will not stop the problems of human trafficking without the aid of law enforcement. By “turning the other cheek”, law enforcement in the Middle East, Congo, India, etc., are enabling brothel owners to continue on in their lucrative business. And as a society we shouldn’t accept this. Law enforcement has the power to put an end to brothels and place brothel owners, along with men who rape and beat women and girls and purchase women and girls for sex, in prison. But instead the law enforcement tends to take “bribes” to not see what is going on within their own jurisdiction. And government officials are not behind the cause to stop sex trafficking in their countries by empowering their women and girls and encouraging prison sentences of the…

Not only is this an United States issue, this is a major global issue. Gladys Lawson explained “Don’t let those wicked men win, don't let them destroy you” (1). Many are not fortunate enough to make it out but those who are have to live with the trauma of knowing that they will never be the same. Understanding what they may have gone through is something everybody is blind too. We can all come together as a nation and make this into an unprofitable industry. As one we should all become aware, understand the signs of human trafficking, educate ourselves on this crime, and help survivors gain access to legal assistance. Helping the survivors will be a major factor. Knowing they may not automatically be back adjusted to everyday life, having that everyday help will be a major help. Realizing that most of human trafficking involves female children and adults this should give our local communities even more reason to want to stop this illegal business. Put yourself in the position of the victim and their family. You have to understand that is not something you would want to go through, so let's stand up and do what is…

Human trafficking is the illegal act of forcing people, commonly women and children, to perform slave actions. Everyone knows human trafficking is a global problem, but most people do not realize it happens in the United States as well. Thousands of people are affected by this awful crime in the U.S. every day and most of the people that commit it are never caught. Sadly, most trafficking cases occur in massage parlors and spas while the customers are completely oblivious to it. The worst part about human trafficking is that kids, who are forced to commit these awful actions, are often caught and arrested for prostitution, vandalism, or curfew…

Of the three hundred thousand sex slaves sold in the US, 25% are forced into the business by parents or family members and 75% are former runaways. Each year, 1.7 million children run away from home. From that number, 90% will be approached by traffickers within 48 hours. Many of which do not make it out the industry alive.
