Writing Assignment 1 In the short video series on ‘How to get the most out of studying’, by Dr. Stephen Chew of Samford University, Video 1 is over the beliefs that make you fail or succeed. In the first part of this video, Dr. Chew talks about the use of ineffective and effective study strategies. He states that, if ineffective strategies are used then, you could study long and hard but, still fail. However, if you use effective learning strategies then, you can get most learning out of your study in time. This first video examines your beliefs on how accurate and understanding you have about how people learn. Dr. Chew mentioned that, students succeed based on their behavior on their beliefs about how they best learn and that the more accurate your beliefs, the more effectively you’ll learn. With my life I felt that I’ve always studied with the thought of memorizing as the core goal. During high school I was always interested in science and with science there was always an abundant of new concepts to study at the same time so, that’s when I started to rely on memorizing as my main goal. It worked throughout high school so, I decided to major in Biochemistry. However, the amount of worked if not tripled, doubled. I did great my first semester but, everything became harder and harder after because, memorizing was not a skill that was enough to help me learn. As I learned that, I started to realize that, maybe, biochemistry was not a field I wanted to be in because, other than memorizing the concepts that I could, I didn’t enjoy learning and what I was doing in in the labs, was just not really for me. After two years of being biochemistry major, I changed to a field I could picture myself in and here I am now, a Psychology; Pre-counseling
