Stanley Tack And Bethany Hamilton: A Character Analysis

A well-known miracle in The Bible is when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. As Jesus and his disciples were traveling to Judea, they arrived in a town called Bethany. A woman named Martha approached Christ and explained to him that her brother, Lazarus, has been dead for four days. Christ reassures Martha that he is “the resurrection and the life” (“Raising of Lazarus”) and can perform unimaginable miracles. Jesus followed Martha back to Lazarus’s body, and he orders Lazarus to rise. Miraculously, Lazarus arose from the dead and was living again. When Martha needed help recovering from her brother’s tragedy, she asked for help from Jesus Christ, who represents religious leaders (“Raising of Lazarus”). Her actions represent the actions of Bethany Hamilton from Soul Surfer and Stanley Tack from “The Miracle Years of Little Fork.” Stanley Tack and Bethany Hamilton are the same in the way they react to life-altering tragedies because they both sought out religious leaders and succeeded in finding emotional refuge instead of falling into depression.
