Stake Conference Meeting
This message is in response to the previous High Council Meeting and brainstorming request by President Lustig: I strongly consider that more meetings are not the answer to the concern regarding Stake Conference attendance and or Prospective elders’ advancements. We should strongly consider President Uchtdorf last talk regarding adding more burden to members of the church. I believe that our Council is comprised of highly dedicated men with strong testimonies regarding the gospel, Our Heavenly Father, and Jesus Christ. Doing more meetings would not necessarily transfer to members increments of their testimony. For instance, let us consider the Apostle Peter, even after three years of walking with the Savior and witnessing countless miracles, he denied his Master in the most crucial moments. Why? Many have been the teachings and talks in this regards pointing out Peter’s lack of testimony during that particular time. However, after Christ’s resurrection and encounter with the Savior Peter changed and committed totally to the gospel, even to the point of literally giving his life for it. …show more content…
This brother told me that he was working on Sundays and went on telling me different reasons why. I boldly told him: “brother, working on Sundays is not the answer to your problems; if you want to be blessed, you need to strive to keep the commandments”. Decades ago I used to work on Sundays. Why? Perhaps lack of testimony. It was not until I heard a Church authority expressing the importance of this commandment that made me realized the importance of

According to Kenneth Gangel, in his article “The Marks of a Healthy Church,” he seeks to “explain the characteristics of a healthy church using the measurements of the spiritual, biblical, theological, ministry model, and scriptural model of leadership.” To accomplish this Gangel cautions spiritual leaders not to get caught up in measuring church growth in numerical terms. They should accentuate the holiness and sovereignty of God through Bible study, worship, prayer, praise, and fellowship. In following biblical instead of cultural patterns, churches do not feel compelled to stay “up with the times” or get hooked on religious fads and slogans.…

The reason that you are here for this meeting is that you have all been selected to work in leadership roles in the church. Though you serve in the position at OBC, this opportunity should never be taken lightly because God orchestrated it. As a leader in the ministry, there should be a continually question of “Am I pleasing God and operating at a level of excellence that He would be pleased with in this role.”…

A church whose pastor and others in leadership have failed to put in place a proactive plan for discipleship for Believers is usually a “growing” church — growing stagnant, growing cold, growing spiritually immature Christians, and eventually, many growing closed. Patte said, “There is much at stake in accepting or rejecting the challenge of discipleship…” When a pastor or a church makes a conscious decision to make discipleship of Believers a primary focus in their church, they need a plan. The pastor can make his own plan, or find one that will fit the personality of the church. Putman, after some time, has come up with five stages and four spheres of discipleship.…

Mr. Hays made a strong argument about the Sabbath law and about people who goes to church on Sundays. He thinks that this law should be arbitrary to determine the law. Because of Jesus’ resurrection on the first day of the week and His continued appearances on the next few Sundays, Christians worship on Sundays. ( Matthew 28:1, John 20:26, Acts 2:1).…

    Kimball Argument Analysis

I really enjoyed this article. It has been one of my favorites thus far. Kimball had many quality arguments and opinions on what needs to change within the church. His main point of this article is stated on page 86, "I believe true emerging churches must go deep within, and form the inside out, rethink. reshape, and revalue how we are about everything as culture changes. We must rethink leadership, church structure, the role of a pastor, spiritual formation, how community is lived out, how evangelism is done, how we express our worship, etc. It is not about what we do in the worship service, but about everything". I agree with Kimball that the Church still has a lot of growing to do, and trough that growing there must be some changes made along the way. Over the years we have lost our way, and need help guiding us back on the right path.…

“ The greatest on influence on Christianity is getting unbelieving people saved.” (Towns Pg 120) How are we supposed to face this challenge if we are giving off the wrong impression? I believe that several things must take place in order to convert non-believers to warriors of Christ. First, we need to start “talking the talk” and “walking the walk.” The leaders of church should be held accountable when they make mistakes. I understand that we are all human and that we all sin, but when you step-up to take a position in a church, you actions should be held to a higher standard. Deacons shouldn’t be having affairs and still keep their position in the church. Choir leaders shouldn’t be drinking in the bar every Saturday and then still be allowed to sing on Sunday morning. We set bad examples for the non-believers when we allow these things to happen. Second, A preacher’s salary should be comfortable, but not lavish. Why would you want to drive an $80,000 car around when you can purchase one for $20,000 and use $60,000 to help mission in your community? It doesn’t make sense to me how a person can stand in a front of a congregation and beg for the members to keep giving more money if they are living that type of lifestyle. We just discussed being made in…

The intense call to action I sensed compelled me to propose to my pastor that we develop a Christian Education Leadership Team. He was not resistant to the idea and of course, with me having proposed the idea, he said "Sounds good. Give me a proposal." God's always sets things in order and is always timely. Consequently, my proposal is to develop a Carolina Church Christian Education Leadership Team who will plan, coordinate and evaluate and oversee the Carolina Church Christian Education program and endeavor to integrate, community oriented strategies on the church's annual calendar. It is both an exciting and daunting endeavor. However, it is much needed if we are to be the church God is calling us to be in these quickly changing…

I would like to start this report off by saying that I have never been to city council meeting before, even though my father was the mayor, and still serves on city council back in my home town of Kingsford, Michigan. I found this experience both interesting and exhausting to see and understand the scope of the council’s role and responsibilities in keeping this city running. All members of council must have to have a very extensive education and background in finance and public administration even in mid-sized city like Colorado Springs. I couldn’t imagine the business required in a major metropolitan city.…

    City Council Meeting

The city council meeting could have been interesting if it hadn't dragged on for so long. At first I wasn't sure of what was going on because I couldn't find where they were at on the agenda. I finally found my place when they were doing the announcements and presentations. This part of the meeting took the most time, but I guess it was the most important. They gave six different presentations. The first was a proclamation in recognition of Business Appreciation Week. Four people went up on stage to accept the proclamation and the Pres./ CEO gave a speech. Next was the presentation of a certificate in recognition for Costco Wholesale. The received the BRACE award for "Retail Business of the Year." Dr. Min-Lee Cheng then went up to accept a Proclamation in recognition of "Mosquito and Vector Control and West Nile Virus Awareness Week.…

    City Council Meeting

For my project I visited the Los Alamitos City council. The beginning of the meeting started with a call of order then proceeded to the roll call of the board members. After these steps had taken place the Pledge of Allegiance was said and the meeting began. As each speaker had their turn to speaker about their topic I noticed how democratic it was after a person had given their speech each of the board members voted on the issue and the matter was either passed or declines, it was very similar to direct democracy. Also each speaker was given five minutes which is plenty of time to get your ideas across to the board, and it’s just a long enough time so people don’t get sidetracked or bored. But the only problem that I can see with the five minute rule is if you have too many people speaking at a meeting, not everyone will have their chance to speak. While they’re I noticed that the size of the city council building was a little smaller than expected, because they were unable to sit all the people who attended causing a majority of people to stand in the back during the course of the meeting. There were many issues brought up during the meeting, one of the first issues dealt with the location of Verizon services through Los Alamitos, and the installing and construction that would happen if the city were to install Verizon services. Another important issue that was brought up was the increasing rise in water prices in los Alamitos, which any of the citizens at the meeting talked about and many proposals to the board. An finally one of the Last issues had to deal with trees uprooting sidewalks and roads throughout Los Alamitos that where cased by trees. Out of these three main topics the one that most surprised me was the cracked sidewalks and roads from trees. This most interested me because of the stimulus money that was put into fixing roads in the us has not helped out damaged and pot hole filled roads and sidewalks. These trees should be…

The Seneca Falls convention marked the first time in American history, where in an organized public setting, attention was brought onto the injustices women had endured for years. Women had been painstakingly succumbed to degradations for centuries and this convention, held in upstate New York, would bring them together to form a cause for their overall freedom from man’s idea of who they should be. The Declaration of Rights and Sentiments, written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, would be the key to unlock those chains that had confined women for so long. The July 19th and 20th Seneca Falls convention would be the documented beginning of the struggle for women’s rights.…
