As a geologist in the Mars One Project, I needed to do a lot of research on Mars, its atmosphere, its conditions, its soil, etc. My team’s mission is to find a way to provide nutrition to the astronauts. The contributions I have made with settling on Mars is, first of all, had to figure out the temperature of Mars. With the information we researched, we figured out what temperature we need to have in the greenhouse, and what temperature we needed for the plants to grow in. What I did separately, was that I researched what the soil on Mars is composed of. I searched this up because we needed to grow food on Mars to provide a good nutrition for the astronauts. The soil is composed of finely broken up basaltic rock fragments and are highly…

The years after World War II was a time of great scientific and technological advancements. With these advancements came great tension and rivalry between the United States and the former Union of Soviet Socialists Republic (USSR). The biggest rivalry between the two superpowers was the advancement in space technology. In 1952, the International Geophysical Year (IGY) was established in which scientists stated that in the time between July 1, 1957 and December 31, 1958, solar activity would be at a high point. The IGY made it so that both the US and the USSR became determined to be the first to reach space, and so the space race was born. During the space race, the USSR made many launches that were very advanced and superior to the US. The Soviet Union was technologically superior to the United States during the Space Race in terms of the Sputnik, Luna, and Vostok programs.…

Scientific research I am sure to some degree would require general cognitive ability, but crystallized cognitive ability is the most appropriate in my opinion. From my understanding, trial and error is a huge part of the process with scientific research. As things might fail the first time this becomes a learned experience and a different approach is necessary. In the armed forces trial and error can result in death. These two in my opinion would be the most…

Highly analytical reasoning thinking with demonstrated talent for identifying, improving, and streamlining complex work processes. The world values people who have good analytical skills, who can see the big picture from the details, and who can think in terms of multi-disciplinary combinations. According to Thomas Friedman, author of The World is Flat, it’s "interdisciplinary combinations - design and technology, mathematics and art - that produce YouTube and Google." In this age of overflowing information, in which the number of words on the Internet is close to surpassing the total number of words spoken in the history of humanity, we must know how to analyze and deal with information; to know what are good sources of information, to be able to access it and use discrimination to make effective use of it. As a whole, analytical ability is an important skill which the college students or professionals must develop in order to achieve the success in the workplace.…
