Obesity is one of the biggest problems in America. Though we live in a country with advanced technology, and great economic power; we also live in a country plagued with obesity. In the past twenty years, obesity has become so familiar with people of all ages including young children. Obesity is no longer a concern of appearance; it is more a concern of health. Obesity can also leads to other health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, and hypertension. What is the solution to this problem besides medication and surgery? One of the easier and simpler solutions is to drink alkaline water. To understand what alkaline water is, we must know where it comes from, and how it works. Knowledge of the benefits of alkaline water for treating obesity will help solve this national problem.

This research report discusses the benefits of alkaline water for obesity. It contains the information that will give us the knowledge of alkaline water and how it can treat obesity. Dr Robert Young (2006) biochemist and author of the pH Miracle range of books has said "you are not overweight; you are over acid". Drinking alkaline antioxidant water will neutralize and flush this excess acidity out of our bodies allowing us to gain control of our weight. This provides a very effective and cheap solution to weight loss and obesity. Although many know that obesity is not healthy, they must also understand that obesity is a serious disease and danger to their health. Regular dieting and medication not always work if we do not clearly understand the root of the cause. This research paper addresses what alkaline water can resolve the excess acid problem to give a solution for obesity.

What is Alkaline Water?
First, we need to know, what alkaline water is. A definition of alkaline water on the Web is "A water ionizer is an appliance that ionizes water. Ionized water is purported to be beneficial to human health and marketed with claims that it is an antioxidant that can slow aging and prevent disease. Others note that such claims contradict basic laws of chemistry and physiology" ( That is the definition of alkaline ionizes water, but what exactly is it? Alkaline water is negatively charged and an "antioxidant." Antioxidants reduce cellular and DNA damage caused by free radicals. Alkaline water can neutralize the acidity of the body caused by stress, modern diet, air pollution, and many bottled waters. A higher pH in the body reduces the need for fat and cholesterol to protect the body from damaging acids. Ionized water is the product of mild electrolysis, which takes place in the ionized water unit. The product of ionized water is treated tap water that has not only been filtered, but has also been reformed through a process which provides a reduced water with a large mass of electrons that can be donated to active oxygen in the body to block the oxidation of normal cells. Ian Blair Hamilton stated, "When water has electrical energy, it causes the hydrogen within it to assume one of two forms. One is hydrogen that has a positive electrical charge. This water is 'acidic'. The other is hydrogen that bonds with an oxygen atom and becomes negatively charged. This is the building block of life itself, and chemically, it is in the form of OH-. One oxygen atom, one hydrogen atom with this negative electrical charge. That is ionized water. It now has energy it wants to donate to any compatible atom in your body. And it is called 'alkaline'." The term alkaline water is just a label used to describe ideal drinking water as provided by nature, one of many labels that arise as we explore the hidden properties of water. All natural water consists of H2O molecules and OH- and H+ ions in very small quantities. These ions give acidity and alkalinity to water. When these ions are equal in number, the water is neutral, when the H+ is more it is acidic, when the OH- ions are...
