1200 Jail Commander: Currently serving as the Jail Commander leading 7 Lieutenants, 35 Sergeants, 385 Deputies / Detention Officers and Civilian employees. Duties encompass a host of administrative and leadership duties associated with running one of the largest jails in the nations providing for the care custody and control to nearly 5000 inmates.

During my time there I became certified as a Mental Health Peace Officer. The Mental Health Unit is accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. During my time in command the Mental Health Unit was recognized as the Outstanding Program in the country by NCCHC in 2015.

Assistant Division Commander: Assigned for 7 years to the Communications Division as the Assistant Division Commander over seeing 4 sergeants, 8 deputies, 135 communication officers and 23 civilian employees. Duties encompass a host of administrative and leadership duties associated with running an emergency call center to support the 3 million citizens of unincorporated Harris County. I began a program of employee recognitions with Rookie of the Year, Employee of the Year, Trainer of the Year and Supervisor of the Year awards. That program evolved into an annual Employee Appreciation and Award Banquet where those personnel along with others who had earned awards throughout the year were honored in front of their peers.     On October 8th we visited Fresno County Jail. Fresno County Jail is ran by the Fresno County Sheriffs Office. According to the visitation there is not one specific watch commander, there are several different individuals that are watch commander which is dependent on the shift. The head of the agency or director is Sheriff Margaret Mims. The inmates at this particular institution are supervised by approximately 350 individuals ranging from correctional officers, sergeants, and lieutenants. As defined by Fresno county it is the Correctional Sergeants duty to act as a lead supervisor for one or more functional work areas. Correctional Sergeants then report to Correctional Lieutenants who serve as a watch commander for an assigned work shift. Correctional Lieutenants are also the first management level classification within the correctional officer classification series. This particular jail is used to detain individuals awaiting court appearance, and to house convicted inmates sentenced to serve terms in the local jail. As I am writing this paper the current population is 2,639 where only 231 of those are female inmates. There are currently 959 sentenced inmates in the jail, and 1680 are considered to be “pretrial”.…
