Social Justice For Black Americans
“Progress has been made as far as social justice for Black Americans is concerned”. Meaning that as far as social justice for Black Americans is a concern progress has been made, that social justice for Black Americans has progressed and gotten better. While laws for Black Americans have improved, social justice for them has not. I disagree that progress has been made as far as social justice for Black Americans is concerned.
I disagree with the prompt because social justice for Black Americans is still a concern to this day. People are still concerned with the social justice for Black Americans because it is still a problem. Many Black Americans have become famous for their writing and poems regarding their views and feelings on how social justice for them is still a concern, such as Paul Laurence Dunbar and Langston Hughes; from the Harlem Renaissance. Also Maya Angelou and Tupac Shakur from the modern writers. From the Harlem Renaissance, for example in the poem “Sympathy” (Dunbar) he explains how he knows how the caged bird feels because he himself feels like a caged bird trying to get out of this cage of social injustice for him and his fellow Black Americans. Another example of this is in the poem “I, too” (Hughes) he

Also another example of this from the modern writers views, in the song “I Aint Mad At Cha” (Tupac), he explains how to this day he can’t understand why their still experiencing this social injustice towards himself and other Black Americans and how it feels like a “ghetto we can never leave”, how he hopes and prays for a change; “I beg God to find a way for our ghetto kids to breath, Show a sign make us all

Change is spearheaded by a shift in mindset rather than staying neutral to the norm. And in order to change someone's mindset, we must be wholly determined ourselves. From the famous words of Martin Luther King's, 'I have a dream' speech, we can feel his burning desire to inspire the American people. Although King refused to remain neutral to the treatment towards people of color, he always advocated nonviolent protests. Through pleas of judging someone on their character rather than their skin tone, he urged America to end lynching, grant everyone full, equal, and promised rights, and grant well deserved tolerance of race. If King and other activists such as Malcolm X and Rosa Parks chose to remain neutral to their maltreatment, the United States very well may have been stuck in the same 1950's mentality for years to come. These African American leading figures prove the point being made- identifying and finding solutions are necessary to move forward.…

I disagree that Black Americans need to have a revolution to make progress. A revolution forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favor of a new system. I disagree because after the overthrowing of the government comes the work of replacing it. The real progress would be a personal revolution from behaviors that caused the need for a for a revolution.…

In order to demise discrimination in America we need to move towards progress in the way we perceive others. Our assumptions of others can lead them to feeling belittled, unaccepted and create divisions within our world. The first step to abolishing discrimination would be to educate ourselves on other people before jumping to assumptions and making judgement about them and how they live their lives. If America is known to be one of the most diverse countries in the world we should embrace it rather than discriminate against it.…

Many people in the modern United States consider themselves as social justice warriors. I'm not gonna lie I actually used to be one too but then I realized that the things that I was protesting about had barely any evidence to support my claims. I didn’t realize that until now and that's why I switched sides. I now believe that some social justice is hurting our country and that's something that I’m willing to fight for.…

Social justice and equity would be an area of interest since I have worked closely with the Institute for Dismantling Racism, and Hispanic League, both located in Winston-Salem, NC. These organizations fight structural and cultural barriers through various activities (i.e. community events, caucuses, etc.) to promote community inclusiveness and cultural understanding. My experience with these organizations gives me first-hand experience with common social justice and equity issues that may occur throughout North Carolina. Fighting for social justice and equity is a passion of mine that I have enjoyed pursuing in my academic career. My passion for this topic and people, as well as, my experience greatly increases my interest for this focus…

I am one of many students that attend St Margaret Mary’s Catholic College, an all-girls high school in Townsville. This term in religion we have been learning about different social justice issues (including poverty and homelessness) and the Catholic Social Teachings (CST). Through this we have learned how these issues and the teachings can relate to us, and influence everyone's lives. We have also seen a wider view on how the teachings can assist in creating a world, that is less affected by common social justice issues. For our assessment the task was to choose one of four Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), explore what issue the goal is set to address and write a letter to you, suggesting ways in which we, as Catholics, may be able to…

Social Justice in Education "Social Justice in Education" by R. W. Connell discusses the role of education in society and the implications that social justice issues have on education. Connell begins by establishing that education and social justice can be examined separately yet they are inescapably linked through the social medium of their implementation. "Education concerns schools, colleges and universities, whose business is to pass knowledge on to the next generation. Social justice is about income, employment, pensions or physical assets like housing."(Connell, 1993) Three points validating the equal importance of social justice and the education system to people of all delineations are: 1.) in Western society public schools are key forums of social interaction and comprise some of the largest social institutions 2.) educational institutions are highly economic bodies and have become "major public assets" (Connell, 1993) 3.) teaching becomes a vehicle by which society is ultimately determined and has a great influence over society 's morality. Connell describes the meaning of justice in education as being "a question of fairness in distribution… equality."(Connell, 1993) "Justice cannot be achieved by distributing the same… standard good to… all social classes."(Connell, 1993) By stating this, Connell summarizes that in the attempt to achieve equality, unequal means must be employed. The implications for teaching presented by Connell 's article are immense. The concept of equality in education and the equality of access to education are matters that are determined by the social constructs of the society in which we live. The notion of equality in education means that educators must approach all material and subject matter with a premise of unbiased predetermination. Music, math, science, fine arts, English, Japanese, history, etc… must all be considered on a par. Our current educational system does not treat all subjects as equal in our public education…

The California justice system has for years been implementing a retributive incarceration system. With the current system the way it is, to many people are being incarcerated for crimes in which a lesser penalty should occur. California’s system of retributive justice is not working. When looking at the status of the justice system and the many people incarcerated it becomes apparent retributive justice does not always detour or change behavior. In cases such as possession of small amounts of marijuana a system of restorative justice approach would be more suitable than incarceration. Restorative justice works as a way to problems solve rather than isolate or incarcerate low-level nonviolent offenders (http://www.cscsb.org). There are states that have legalized marijuana which in turn decriminalizes its possession and usage. This might be attributed to the fact that incarceration for such a crime is an unnecessary expense placed on the state. According to the Legislative Analyst Office the current cost to house a prisoner is 19,663 a year, whereas restorative justice allows for a cheaper and more efficient way of resolving the crime. However, because California State laws have many loop holes persons are still being arrested for minor offences while being charged and incarcerated for another.…
