Social isolation is the separating of individuals or groups of people from a greater group for various reasons. Social isolation can be voluntary, involuntary, and even executed covertly without the isolated party being privy. Voluntary isolation spans from a leave of absence at work to entering a drug or alcohol rehabilitation center or attending college. It can result from a desire to fulfill life long dreams such as traveling the world or be the produced result of discontentment with ones life. Isolation can be accomplished voluntarily through an individuals choice of social groups such as religious or athletic groups while refraining from any touch points from other groups or even society as a whole.
