It is understood that the police did a slight investigation trough out the scenario, but concluded that it lacked evidence to follow up on the investigation. The wrong procedurals that officer Brady delivered at the scene could result in the reopening of the case. If the family manages to reopen the case they should demand the Smithville PD to charges the victims with homicide rather than a traffic offence.
