Sloth Short Stories
Sloths weren’t always slow, they used to be the fastest animal out there. Never staying in one place long, traveling from country to country in two week's time. Until one day, a sloth named Oliver was born and dreamed of becoming the fastest sloth there ever was. He was by no means the most attractive fellow, nor was he the tallest. Not even two feet tall, barely weighing 20 pounds once fully grown. Two long curved claws were his fingers and feet, two large brown eyes filled his head, while a stubby nose took the remaining space. His hair a brownish gray, coarse in texture. A smile could be seen on his thin lips, no matter the weather, whether it rain or shine. Oliver did everything as fast as he could, be it talking, eating, or just waking …show more content…
Every time they’d just say, “Oh right, you were already headed to your next destination.” All of Oliver’s friends would say similar things as he continued on his journey. When he got home, he found his wife looking through an old family photo album. He sat beside her and began to look for himself, but quickly saddened when he only saw himself in one or two pictures. As they continued to look through the album he asked her, “Can you tell me about everything I missed?” She simply smiled a knowing smile, they spent the rest of the evening looking through the album their children soon joining …show more content…
Thinking something was wrong, the others would ask, “What’s wrong Oliver?” He’d only say, “Oh I’ve just decided to take my time, take in the sights. Just making sure nothing passes me by.” This confused many animals, but Oliver would keep walking, just enjoying the sights the world had to offer. As he grew older and his children grew to have children of their own, they taught them the same thing Oliver taught them. Now generations later, the sloth moves at a sedate pace, staying in one place for several days at a

Born into a family of great affluence, young Oliver( Oliver J. Queen), just as any other wealthy child would, pursued an array of skills but it was his exemplary talent in archery that stood tall from the rest; he was said to be a natural. On the flip side, what made Oliver just as normal as any boy was his idolization for Red Hood, but like most children that was something that would remain a thought and would soon subside. Oliver's skill in archery wasn't put to much use as he was a good-hearted, innocent child, slightly traumatized by his first animal kill, which was also coincidentally enough - an accident. Oliver was orphaned at a young age during a visit to a safari zoo after his parents were mauled by lions and since then he's always blamed himself for their loss as he had a shot on the lions but was too hesitant.…

In the novel The Moths And Other Short Stories, Helena Maria Viramontes writes the life’s struggles of what Latinas in Los Angeles, and maybe around the world, may have to experience through the different Latina characters in the novel. Each chapter represents a different experience these Latinas may face as they become adolescents and enter adulthood. The characters in the novel cover different aspects of a Latina’s life as they experience abortion, religion, family culture and even death. These experiences are told by Viramontes, who herself is Latina and grew up in Los Angeles, where the novel’s setting takes place. Although it is not confirmed that these experiences…

Subsequently, we see characters that represent a sloth all over the media. For example, we all know the cartoon Spongebob Squarepants. It may be a children’s cartoon, but many of the characters represent the seven deadly sins. Patrick, the big, pink starfish sleeps under a rock all day. When he is challenged by any remotely time consuming or straining task, the “gears” in his brain start to malfunction. His character is the epitome of what a sloth stands…

    Why Do Humans Kill Sloths

Sloths have many predators, like an jaguars and humans, there are many more but we are just going to talk about these. Jaguars are the top predator on the ground. Sloths go down to the forest floor once a week, and when they go they can't protect themselves from jaguars. Humans shoot sloths so they can cut down their homes. When they shoot them they stay hanging in the tree because their claws have such a great grip, and the hunters have to climb the tree just to get the sloth. But in my opinion that is too much work just to kill a harmless creature, because they are eventually going to become extinct if humans keep killing sloths. Humans kill sloths so we can use sloths claws for knives. Some people capture sloths as pets and they aren't used…

The story “The Lamp at Noon” takes place in a dried up, unfertile desert. Dust storms are causing health problems for the family. The setting is crucial to create the dark and sad atmosphere of the story because it was all about the fact that there is something wrong with the place that it dried out their farm which caused them to suffer. Which also creates a mood of being dull, lonely and monotonous. The couple, Ellen and Paul, has been arguing about what they're going through. Ellen begs her husband to leave the place and stay at the city where they can get more decent clothes and food to eat. But Paul didn't want to leave because he still believes that the soil is still fine for farming, that one day the storm will stop and the sunlight will come back.…

There are many parts about Helena Maria Viramontes’ story “The Moths” that I could relate to. I was very drawn to the ways in how similar my experiences were to those of the narrator. I along with my mother had to care after my grandmother whose health was slowly depleting. This young girl transforms because of her experiences and hardships through subjugation by her own culture, the struggle for freedom, and the grief that came from her grandmothers’ death. I believe Viramontes depicts a great story about change in which the “Moth” symbolizes the oppression that the narrator experiences in her household’s religion and also because of the social structures related with it, contrasted by the willingness for freedom of development within the native “curandera” custom that was instilled in her by her grandmother.…

Irony, satire, parody, humor and epigrams are deeply connected by having one main thing in common: they are usually meant to hurt the intellectual self of someone. We use it in our everyday’s life to make fun of people, or simply because someone is annoying and we would like them to stop, without being “too” rude.…
