What did you learn from the meetings with your Project Mentor, including the presentation that you gave to your Project Mentor? The topic I choose was of my interest, my mentor advised me to choose the topic of my own interest by which I am comfortable. His advice has been very successful to me in increasing my commitment and inspiration to be consistent in my work. The first most initial thing that I have learnt from my mentor while meeting was to be decisive on my decision rather than getting surrounded by gloominess, emotionalism and being influenced by others. This was learnt when I although selected my topic but the main problem that I encountered was selecting the company when I was not able to find an appropriate company in domestic market with the required data to perform analysis, after taking the advice from my mentor that I could use my home country companies as well really worked for me. The experience of seniors is always a treasure for those who are able to extract it and implement it, despite all the knowledge of the business environment it is very rare a person that he solely will be able to take into account all factors required for analysis purpose. This was the thing when my mentor pointed to me along with environmental and corporate social responsibilities of companies which are vital for organisation in modern environment, which made me think out of the box as well. The most important thing after gathering data and before starting the project was planning and organising the project with in time frame and fulfilling OBU requirement along that. This required my skills of project management which I had acquired during the high school. I categorised the project into several activities and steps, made my detailed planning as well as made critical path to achieve the objectives. Since I attempted all of my papers by self-studies and did not have any specific teacher or tuition centre from where I find mentor easily, therefore my cousin who helped to find the mentor. It was privilege for me to have his time and his acceptance of me to work as my mentor. Therefore I realised the importance of helping others especially and giving my time to others for which will really be helpful to them. The importance of time and its management has been one of the realisations to me through the project, this was very important when I had to manage my ACCA last paper along with this preparation of CFA level 2, managing my portfolio and work on my OBU project as well. My project mentor was always active in listening to the problems I had, despite his very busy schedule. The meeting with project really helped me realise the importance of effective communication, especially listening attentively to the mentor. Along with this the presentation in power to the mentor and to the audience was worth to me, after high school long time back I had to do the presentation. This is one of the few presentations that I made before I will enter into professional career life. It helped to identify the importance of using body language and taking all the along with me while presentation and even how to answer the questioner through eye contact as well. The “constructive criticism” has been one of favourites area for which I always look on to extract from people. The reason behind this is it helps me to develop and bring improve the areas which I neglected. Although criticism sometimes is difficult to accept but in end one has to accept if there is further room for improvement or if it is wrong. I always listened to the constructive criticism of my mentor and worked on it as advised.
