Ski Mountain Creative Writing
It was a cold, bitter, sunny morning mid January. The previous night's snowstorm had given hell, twenty-four new untouched inches were left on the ski mountain waiting for my friends and I. As the doors of the gondola close, an abundance of fog disrupted our vision. The doors opened once again after what felt like a lifetime.
There we stood, looking down to the end of the run as we began to slowly make our way through the remarkably light powder. The snow was heavily up until a single patch of ice that was untouched from snow. We carefully skied through the ice until we spotted a single ski sticking out of the snow. My friends looked at me from across the ski run as if they knew something I didn’t.
Curiousity got to the best of me. I struggled

Over the sound of the music playing through the headphones in my helmet I heard a loud rumbling, as if I was surrounded by rattlesnakes. I look around and see nothing out of the ordinary. However, up in the sky was a flight for life helicopter quickly moving towards the top of the mountain. We knew why it was there, we prayed that the man would be okay.
The next two days went by slow, not hearing a word from anyone about what had exactly happened. Finally, the next day I open up the Steamboat paper only to see the headline “73 Year-old Man Dies on Ski Mountain”. My heart dropped, although I hadn’t known this man personally I felt as if in someway I did. Apparently this man had a heart attack while skiing and then tumbled down the hill where he eventually passed away. Ski patrol had tried their best to save his life but at the end of the day was unsuccessful.
Experiencing this truly changed the way I look at the world today. This was the first time I actually experienced the death of a person. Although I didn’t know this man he still managed to teach me a very important life lesson. The lesson I learned is that you never know if you have a tomorrow, today is a blessing, so you should spend it doing what you love with who you love. It’s sad that it took someone dying for me to realize this, but from that point on I have looked at life with a whole different

His legs pushed him around the ice as he took several deep breaths then stood in the middle of the pond. 'Breath it is just a few spins and jumps.' Fay thought to himself as he did such a routine and started to smile as he added a few other things. His father had trained him but after the fire the ice was really his only place that felt safe for him. He skated and skated until he was mentally and physically exhausted maybe he would be able to sleep a few hours before going into work at the small cafe. He sat down on the ice feeling the cold rush to his warm body as he looked at the grey sky and smiled "Perfect time for a storm."He said as he laid on the ice looking as the lightning danced across the sky in an intense way that made Fay relax more and not hear the ice starting to crack. His hand pushed the black hair out of his face as he sat up when he heard a noise and realized it was the damn ice cracking. He swallowed hard. "This isn't good."He groaned as he tried to shift his weight evenly but soon was engulfed in the icy November water. He tried to grab onto the edge of the ice but no such luck as he went under filling his lungs with the icy liquid making sure he couldn't even try to hold…

Nothing reveals the true meaning of life until it is taken away. Death being the hardest, most tragic and life spiralling event, it can leave many people lost. For me it was exactly that, when I heard the tragic news of the death of my role model, my best friend, my only brother, it tore me apart. The death of my brother allowed me to put everything in perspective. Opening my eyes to the real world, to see beyond what is just happening right in front of me. With my freshman year of high school just starting with enough to deal with, this topped it all. I was lost. No time to say a simple “goodbye”.…

I first heard the horrific news in the middle of summer. That day, my dad was driving me over to my mom’s house, and I knew something was wrong when he told me with a deliberate expression, “Your mom was coming home early from her work trip this week due to a family emergency.” As a result, I became very concerned to hear what has happened. Once we arrived at my mom’s house I quickly noticed tears in her eyes. She sat my sisters and I down on the couch, and told us sorrowfully, “Your Uncle Mike passed away this morning. He woke up today, and couldn’t breathe, so Aunt Sue took him to the emergency room, and they couldn’t keep him alive.”…

Suddenly, the once blue summer ski covered in white pearly clouds like marsh mellows, disappeared within moments of departure. Billowing gray clouds suffocated the atmosphere as far as the naked eye could see. A light sprinkle of participation turned into a sever downpour of rain stinging our bare moist skin that no longer protected us. It felt as though petite needles continuously dug deep beneath the epidermis.…

Skiing was not my forte or my favorite activity to do. My emotions were enraged at the way I tumbled down the slope. My body ached by falling and tumbling through the freezing cold snow and ice. Home sounded so marvelous right now, anywhere but here, my confidence had hit rock bottom. My face red and frozen from sobbing. I concluded that there was some other way down, nevertheless there wasn’t.…

The dead walked towards me as I tried to move back, in his hands were a pair of bloodstained pocket knife. A hard wall smashed against my head, for I accidently backed up on the wall. Black dots blocked my sight, with little consciousness that remained in myself. I rolled into a ball as the creature closed in, still screaming because I was going to die in any moment. I buried my head, trying to to sink in the snow as much as possible. As I was praying, a distant voice, kept calling my name. It was my friend Molly, who was also the owner of the store. She shook my shoulders violently, as I was blinded by the snow. I looked up again, nothing had happened. Looking across, the pile of snow remained unharmed. Snow flurried down again.…

    wind

Winter storms don’t glide in gently on puffy white cumulous clouds, they barrel across the mountains like runaway freight trains, full of noise and bluster, prodded by the restless wind. Ski resorts don’t like to talk about wind–or storms in general—because it scares away the tourists, who somehow forget that winter is messy, cold, and wild, as if snow were laid down softly each night like a blanket over a sleeping baby. But wind is a fact of life in the mountains, as much a part of the weather as snow itself, and those who grumble about it or say it does nothing but blow overlook the fact that the wind gives as much as it takes. It can seem malevolent, yes, but there’s a benevolent side, too: Think of wind as a merry prankster whose tricks can bring a smile as much as a sting.…
