A poem is a form of intellectual property the question is what kind? If you notice in the first part I stated the different kinds of property there were. Well a poem is going to be copyright intellectual property the reason for it being is because it is a piece of work published by someone and they have the rights to it. I actual have published a poem and I have a certifcate showing that I own the poem that the poem is mine and I have the copyrights to it. So we can postively say that a poem is copyright property.…
Hmm, Rap: Allusion: Poetry In most song, allusion is portrayed throughout the entire song. Without the use of allusion, the song would be bland because the artist is simply stating what they mean. When artists use allusion, they intend to make the song more interesting, so they can get higher rating. If an artist wants to speak on a recent breakup they might use a lot of similes and figurative language to make their word play more interesting and make it enjoyable music.…
I agree with Morgan’s claims because writing and singing are outlets for people to express their emotions and issues. I feel that lyrics all have a deeper meaning and purpose to them than just the actual words being said. Morgan makes valid points and explains and addresses…
Should rap songs be protected by the first amendment? Yes, song lyrics are protected under the Constitution. The First Amendment is considered the backbone of American freedom however, it is important you understand that the rights guaranteed in The Bill of Rights are relative, not absolute. That means our guarantees of freedoms (including song lyrics) can be restricted if subjected to clarification by the Supreme Court.…

The author’s final plea for the acceptance of rap as true poetry is to clear the misconception to all rap music revolves around stereotypically “gansta” lyrics, violence, and misogyny. The “gangsta” style is just one niche of music, “and less dominant than it once was. Rap, considered as a literature rather than it’s top selling hits, addresses a wide range of topics, even including science fiction.” (20) McWhorter mentions Jay Z, whose “magesterial volume of this lyrics” proves that rap can have an intelligent, meaningful message.…

There is always a war going on inside when finding oneself, and the accomplishment of finally being content with oneself sets its basis on one’s gender and age. The poems that best portray the themes of war and self are “The Journey” by Mary Oliver, “The Sacred” by Stephen Dunn, and “ Carrying a Ladder ” by Kay Ryan.…
Some can say rap is poetry. When looking at a poem or reading rap lyrics, many may find it hard to think that those explicit lyrics would be considered poetry. However, art comes in many different…
The musical features of a song are probably something that most people over look. Although to distinguish a rap song from a hip-hop song, it is crucial. Rap has more poetry in the lyrics where hip-hop puts the lyrics to a faster beat and is…
"When I first started rapping, me and a couple brothers would all sit around my place freestyling while someone beat boxed. I even used to tell all the girls that I was a poet. They seemed to find it a little more touching than a rapper" (Prince Paul, The Source 16) The lyrics of rappers are very similar to the words of Black poets. It is argued as to wether or not rap is a viable form of poetry. Both discuss similar subjects, write in the same style and use the same type of language in their writings. When looking at a poem or reading rap lyrics, distinguishing between the two can be difficult, if not impossible.

Both Black rappers and Black poets write about the same subjects. For example the rap group NWA, and the poet Alice Walker, both cover the topic of being from a minority race. Alice Walker states in one of her poems that "there is no planet stranger than the one im from" (Walker, "Note Passed To Superman" 18-19). What Alice is saying is that the world is strange because people judge others by their skin color. The approach NWA takes is a more presumptuous one. In the song "Fuck Tha Police", NWA says " Young nigga got it bad cuz im brown / And not the other color so police think / They have the authority to kill a minority" (NWA "Fuck Tha Police" 3-5). Another common subect between Black poets and rappers is "ghetto life". Nikki Giovani's poem called "For Saundra" is about how she is going to write a poem about trees and blue skies. Then she realized that she was living in a "concrete jungle".
…
People are drawn to the style of rap music because of the beat of the song. Many people like to listen to rap music while dancing because it has a loud constant rhythmic beat. The beat to rap music is also the reason why many people put huge speakers in their cars. The manipulation of words and the order they are put in to make them rhyme is also a big portion in why people are privy to the style of rap music. With rap music there is not really any kind of vocal singing it is all done at one tone and spoken quite fast. Rhyming is the key part to rap music, the ways that the words flow and the way they rhyme is something that attracts people to rap. Battles from a rap concert are also a reason why people listen to rap. In a battle two rappers go against each other trying to win the contest. They win the contest by being able to rap with the thoughts that they are thinking at that time about the other rapper, there is no prior knowledge on what is going to be said so they brainstorm all this during the battle. Rap music is loved by some people but others are also likely to listen to country…
Rap is defined as a popular type of music with black origins, where words are recited quickly over a beat. This genre of music has its roots in West Africa where Griots, village story tellers, would tell stories rhythmically to drum beats. Also, there is references saying that slaves would speak over beats, confessing all the hardships that the slave owners have forced on them. It also showed up in the jazz period. Jazz musicians would speak during their performances. Even gospel music had properties of rap style rhyming throughout the years. Rap music did not rise to popularity quickly, and was kept in impoverished neighborhoods. Due to this, for a long time rap was seen…
Rap music, likewise often called hip-hop music, is a style of popular music believed to have its starting point in African-American urban neighborhood culture. Generally rap music is quite simply to define. When it comes to rap songs, emphazes in on rhyrhm and rap artist instead of singing are mostly talk the lyrics in different pace and rhythm. However during time rap music has developed in many specific ways, like what is called hip hop with often complex, poetry lyrics than by its topic. Also, since start of rap music in New York City neighbourhood, some sub-genres began to develop with the passing of time, with gansta rap as perhaps one of the most commonly known. Most of rap songs are commonly recognized by for their uncompromising lyrics,…
Rap music is a very different genre of music from the rest because it keeps changing its influence among black Americans. From the book by Debra Rosenthal, she defines rap music as an art that is well connected to the African American literature (Rosenthal 661). Rhythm and rhyme are emphasized in the music. On the other hand, melody and harmony are not given much of a priority. From the article, one can get the point that she hates on the music because she states that rap keeps changing the African American slang and refers it as rituals and figures to the black culture. However, I strongly disagree with the conclusion because according to me these black rappers have worked their way up to the top to gain the international recognition. They have also used their prowess in rhyme and rhythm to win their fans. They have taken up the challenge to use the most challenging aspect of music that many other genres do not use. On the point where she has related the rap on only blacks and the way it keeps changing the slang, she misses the point because it is not all the…
