Chapter 1
1. Silas is a weaver.
2. Silas is only sees things up close.
3. The people believe that he is the devil. He had an epileptic attack, and they believed that his sole had left the body, and then returned. The people thought he was an living dead man.

Chapter 2

1. Silas moved to Raveloe because he was upset that God did not clear him, and he was an outcast and Mary broke off their engagement.
2. Silas spends all his time weaving so he doesn’t have to associate with people anymore and he loves gold.
3. When you have a severe setback you either attempt to get back where you once were and go on or you stop trying.
4. Silas gave her a drug that made her sleep, and this stalled her pulse. The individuals begin to believe that Silas may be a witchdoctor. All of the individuals wished him to create them charms, and heal their kids. Silas hordes gold, so he isn’t really poor.

6. At this time, he has lived in Raveloe for fifteen years.

Chapter 3

1. The community is filled with rich people who lived a life style based on their place in church and often drunk.
2. He provides plenty of details and gives back story for all the characters.
3. Godfrey doesn’t get along with his brother and they are both full of themselves. They are both drunks as well.
4. Godfrey fears his brother will tell all his secrets to the rest of the people, and then he’ll lose his job.

Chapter 4

1. Dunstan isn’t very smart and does whatever he wants and doesn’t care.
2. He convinces himself that Silas is dead.
3. The two plots are being combined. Silas is part of the Cass brother’s story and they are in his story. Dunstan stole Silas’s gold and now they are brought together.

Chapter 5

1. Silas tried to look for his gold all over his house, denying it was stolen.
2. He checked all over his house for the gold. If I lose something, I check everywhere I can think of until I finally figure out where it is.
3. He turned to his loom for comfort and got comfort from it when he first moved away from his old home.
4. Silas is hoping Godfrey will make whoever took his gold return it.
5. The hope causes him to go looking for him at the Rainbow ( a bar).
Chapter 6

1. The Rainbow Inn is where everyone goes to discuss things.
2. Mr. Snell takes the role of compromising with both sides of an argument.
3. Mr. macey is repetitive with his stories and he was thinking about the wedding being invalid. Mr. Dowlas argues with the people there and doesn’t believe in ghosts so he offers to stand in front of the stble all night. Mr. Snell argues some cannot see ghosts.
4. There are many kinds of personalities shown and opinions expressed.
5. Raveloe is like my home town becauses everybody knows one another.
Chapter 7 1. Silas shares news that his gold has been stolen.
2. They react by saying that he is crazy.
3. They deem to go to the constable and get him to appoint one as a deputy. Chapter 8
1. The story about the peddler began by someone asking if he had earrings.
2. The growth of his story shows that they are all normal townspeople & are simple minded.
3. Godfrey was going to try to beg his father for forgiveness and make himself out to be the victim.
4. It is completely natural because no one wants to be in trouble with their parents if he is known as violent when made mad. Chapter 9
1. Godfrey and Dunstan’s father is business kind of man. He doesn’t act like they are his children and treats them like everyone else. He believes he is always right and that he is in charge of everything in his family.
2. He has much in common with his sons and cares about his public image.
3. Their family name is at stake. They fear if it gets out, their family image will be ruined and won’t be head of the village.
4. Godfrey hopes something good will happen to get him out of the situation he’s in.
5. Godfrey’s position changed because he has to ask for Nancy’s hand in marriage or his father is going to ask her father for him. Chapter 10
1. Dunstan’s disappearance was unnoticed. He was known to get mad at his father and take off for a long time.
2. The first theory about the robbery was the peddler with the earrings that stole Silas’s gold & the other had something to do with a tender box.
3. The villagers are trying to be nicer to him. They try to talk to him when they see visit him to tell him that they are sorry for his loss.
4. Silas has changed by beginning to talk to other villagers. He is lets them visit and tries to be nicer.
5. The Cass family goes to church then have a Christmas party that night.
6. The New Year’s party is soon to come. Godfrey fears his father will bring up the idea of marriage to Nancy’s father and he will have to decline the offer. Chapter 11
1. Nancy does not want to marry Godfrey because she doesn’t want to marry at all.
2. The ladies at the party all have different opinions of how a lady should act. They judge each other and don’t approve of one another.
3. Nancy is very pretty and skinny but sister is ugly. Nancy is very prim and proper, her sister is not.
4. Upper social levels participate in activities at the party but the lower social levels are to only watch.
5. The men discuss how the women look. Most talk about how funny they look with what they are wearing.
6. He almost fought with Nancy.
7. He has no right to win her approval because he dated her for a while then would ignore her and only wanted her sometimes. Chapter 12 Chapter 12 1. Molly had a plan to dress up in rags to embarrass Godfrey but it backfired and she ended up drunk sleeping in the snow.
2. Silas believed that it was his gold that returned to him.
3. Silas mistakes the child’s yellow proving how desperate he was for his gold.
4. The child shows Silas that he has a soft spot for children.
5. Silas happens to find the child’s mother outside his cottage covered in snow.
Chapter 13 1. When Silas enters the party with the child and Godfrey notices he begins hoping that his wife is dead so he can date Nancy at freewill. 2. He wants to keep the child and care for it.
3. He is relieved that his wife died because no one will know that it was and that it was his child.
4. Godfrey comes back to the party worry-free that he doesn’t have to take care of the child. 5. Godfrey is a very irresponsible and selfish man that needs to attend to his actions.

Chapter 14 1. Mrs. Winthrop helps the man with the child. 2. He was named Eppie after his dead sister.
3. Before Silas found Eppie, he always was alone at the loon. Now he has her to take care of Eppie and brings him to communicate with the villagers. 4. Silas tried to put her in a coal closet to teach her manners because she doesn’t want to hurt her.
Instead of it being a method of discipline, she preferred being in there. She was entertained. Chapter 15
1. Godfrey was happier along with his live as he didn’t have to worry about Dusting coming to tell everything on him. 2. Godfrey wanted to be leader of the church. 3. It was decided that Dustan moved away and won’t be back. Chapter 16
1. Eppie was a beautiful 18 year old with curly blond hair. She was found to be very caring about his father Silas. 2. Silas is going to make a flower garden for Eppie. Also Eppie has been asked to be married by Mrs. Winthrop’s son. 3. Eppie was grown to be a strong person and she believes it. She proved it by carrying a large rock to show it. 4. Eppie wanted everything to stay the same as it way. Silas convinced her otherwise so she decided to talk to Mrs. Winthrop on marrying her son.
Chapter 17
1. Nancy and Godfrey were in charge of the Red house now. Nancy’s sister is taking care of their father.
2. Godfrey wants to have a child with Nancy but Nancy cannot get pregnant, Godfrey tries to convince Nancy into adopting Eppie but Nancy refuses to as she feels that it’s wrong
3. Nancy feels it’s wrong to adopt children and teach them to do chores. 4. Nancy was smart and very honest and she’s dedicated to serve Godfrey.
5. Nancy and Godfrey’s marriage was a success; the only issue was not being able to have children. Chapter 18 1. Dunstan’s body was found in the stone pit. 2. Godfrey confesses everything to Nancy as he felt very bad that Dustan was found with Silas’s money as he stole it.
3. Nancy was angry at Godfrey as she didn’t tell her earlier that Eppie was her child, that they could have raised Eppie, Revealing the fact that she was as desperate to have a child.
4. In this generation, confessions like that are well known as accepted such as having children in each marriage. It’s considered normal.
Chapter 19 1. Godfrey argues that he would be a better care for Eppie as he’s more wealthy and Silas fights back saying he has raised Eppie for 16 years with no issue. Godfrey out of anger says that Eppie is her daughter and that she belongs to him.
2. Godfrey didn’t understand Silas’s fatherly love for Eppie as Eppie’s love for Silas as her father. 3. Silas left angry knowing that Godfrey was her real father.
4. Eppie understood her decision as she’s happy with her life and does not want the things she could get with living with Godfrey and Nancy.
5. She is gonna marry a worker that will help her take care of Silas.

Chapter 20 1. Godfrey decided to see the man Eppie will marry and do whatever he can for her and he won’t tell the matter of his actions because it will do harm to his and Nancy’s family. 2. He didn’t want to the ruin the reputation of his families. 3. It brought them closer as Godfrey saw everything that he has and being thankful for it. 4. Godfrey will try to be a more honest person, he’s learning to think before his actions and to take people into consideration. Chapter 21 1. Silas and Eppie find that Lantern Yard has been destroyed and made into a huge factory.
2. Chapter shows you how much time has passed. 3. Silas expresses his love for Eppie as he has found happiness in his life.
Conclusion
1. Godfrey and Nancy gave Eppie a wedding dress and also fixed her house to fit more than two people.
2. They had to go to speak to Mason as he’s too old to be there and would be upset if he didn’t wish the couple good luck on their marriage.
3. Godfrey was alright with Eppie’s choice of marriage and will support her all the way.
