Following that year Price proved that it wasn’t just a lucky year. In the following seasons Price was selected to backstop Team Canada in the Sochi Olympics where he went undefeated and won gold with Team Canada. Ever since the 2015 season Price has always been in talks to be the Vezina trophy (in the NHL it’s the trophy for best goalie) with also being in talks of MVP. Just last year during the return of The World Cup of Hockey Price was selected to start for team Canada and then he went undefeated again, and won The World Cup of Hockey. Team Canada defeated Team Europe 2-0 in the best of three game series. This happened just after Price was injured for almost ¾ of the season prier. Which showed me that anything can happen and once you get knocked down you get right back up and prove people wrong.…

People would say ‘Girls don’t play hockey. Girls don’t skate.’ I would say ‘watch this’. This quote was stated by the first women to play full-time professional hockey in a position other than goalie, Hailey Wickenheiser. This extremely talented female went against all the odds and came out on top. How awesome is that?? If you ask me, a fellow female hockey player, I’d say it’s pretty incredible. I have been playing competitive hockey for the past 14 years of my life. Growing up playing a male dominate sport has impacted my life tremendously and in so many ways has helped form me into the person I am today. Fighting the never ending battle to be accepted and respected in a man’s sport, developing the thoughts and emotions of a man, and the impact it has made on mine and my father’s relationship over the years are only a few areas in my life that hockey has impacted.…

The 1972 Canada-Soviet Hockey Series was perhaps the most dramatic sports event in Canadian history. Before the series came into being, the Soviet 's demonstrated that they were a tower of strength by winning 11 of 12 Olympic and World Championships from 1963 to 1973. However, Canadians believed that the Soviets would lose to Canadian professionals. The 1972 Super Series was the opportunity for Canada 's "best" to prove their dominance over the Soviets. Charles Hay (President Hockey Canada 1972) was quoted by saying, "At long last we are challenging the Soviets with a team of Canada 's best hockey players, and share with all Canadians our pride in being represented by this superb group of young men playing our national game." This series would put the Soviet "amateurs" against Canada 's professionals. It has made a huge part of history in Canadian hockey and will be remembered for years to come.…

    Captain Canuck Essay

There have been many versions of Captain Canuck since the birth of the original comic book in 1975. Captain Canuck was created in a wholly Canadian fashion, from the images presented in the comic itself: “From futuristic Mounties to a maple-leaf emblazoned snowmobile, Comely incorporated numerous Canadian references,” (Edwardson 190); to the matter in which it was produced – almost completely vertically integrated in a Canadian manner (minus the American distribution company). And while the idea nationalism was rampant in the 1970s, there obviously was not enough enthusiasm, though praised heavily by Edwardson, to keep the comic going for more than three issues. Even though the Canadian edition of TIME magazine praised its “Canadianness”, it was also criticized for its art style as being amateur. I think this aligns strongly with how much of Canadian media is criticized: we are proud of it because its Canadian but it’s also pretty amateur in nature. This is seen not only in comic books, but also in radio, TV, film, art, etc.…

The language barrier between the French and English speaking people played a huge role in French Canadian discrimination. At the time, the control of Quebec's economic sphere had largely been dominated by English Canadian and American investors. This is demonstrated at the very beginning of the film, when a 17 year old Maurice rushes from his grinding machine shop job to the championship game at an outdoor rink because his Anglophone boss kept him late as punishment for talking to a French union activist. This language barrier continues into Richard's hockey career. The Montreal Canadian players mention in the film that none of the coaches, managers and owners spoke French. They are only given instructions in English, and when they do not reply or understand they are viewed as unintelligent. This is evident when Maurice Richard ties Joe Malone's 27 year old record of 44 goals in a season. The newspaper article the next day read to Maurice Richard by…
