Many people communicate by cell phones on a daily basis. But they don’t know or understand how this will impact their safety. Driver distractions are becoming a significant problem in motor vehicle collisions. As stated by Cramer, Mayer, and Ryan using a cell phone while driving is hazardous and it magnifies their risk of having a collision, which multiplies the risk of fatalities (2007). Since people do not understand the risk of in vehicle cell phone use, I came up with this research question. Additionally, I wanted to found out how a driver’s safety is impacted by cell phone use.…
An American writer and futurist, Alvin Toffler once said, “Our technological powers increase, but the side effects and potential hazards also escalate.” What Toffler is inferring is that in this 21st Century, humans are born into a world full of wonderful gadgets. But behind all these wonderful gadgets lies some pretty scary effects to it. With the knowledge of knowing that there is a high possibility of getting into a car accident; teens nowadays, including adults, use their phones while driving. Since the roads humans drive on everyday are saturated with ignorant use of cellphones, the risk of one's life and the pedestrians life is summiting. Nowadays, humans think that they can multitask, but they are wrong. Quite a lot of deaths and road…

For every year that passes, more than 5,000 Americans’ lives come to an abrupt end due to distracted driving. These numbers are almost identical to the number of road fatalities that are caused by intoxicated drivers, showing a correlation that someone who is on their cell phone while driving is just as likely to be in an accident as they would be if they decided to drive under the influence. With these numbers rapidly growing each year, more states are deciding to take legal action by banning the use of cell phones while driving. Simultaneously, the majority of automotive companies are including built-in technology such as Bluetooth and GPS systems to allow people to have access to technology while minimizing their risk of becoming distracted…

With the world becoming more dependent on technology to drive our daily lives, the rate of accidents caused by distracted driving is increasing. According to an article in USA Today entitled "Yes, Cellphones can be Dangerous. No, a Nationwide Ban Won't work," distracted drivers are twenty-three times more likely to crash than drivers who are focused. Although there are other reasons for the cause of this issue, the largest factor in distracted driving is cell phones. Despite recent efforts to minimize cell phone use in the car, one single solution cannot be agreed upon by the people of the United States. Where a popular solution is to issue a ban on cell phones in the car, the opposing opinion is to increase the strength of laws already in existence. While both sides propose a working solution to this problem, each side has its downfalls. Regardless of these downfalls, there is a compromise that satisfies both sides, which is to fortify the laws already set in place to increase highway security. This is a superior solution because it will more effectively penalize those in offense, it will stop other problems related to automobile accidents, and it will make a safer environment for the rising generation of drivers.…

Unless the risks of cell phones are shown to outweigh the benefits, we should not restrict their use in moving vehicles; instead, we should educate the public about the dangers of driving while phoning and prosecute irresponsible phone users under laws on negligent and reckless driving. Assessing the risks We have all heard horror stories about distracted drivers chatting on their cell phones. For example, in a letter to the editor, Anthony Ambrose describes being passed by another driver “who was holding a Styrofoam cup and a cigarette in one hand, and a cellular telephone in the other, and who had what appeared to be a newspaper balanced on the steering wheel—all at approximately 70 miles per hour” (128). Another driver, Peter Cohen, says that after he was rear-ended, the guilty party emerged from his vehicle still talking on the phone (127). Admittedly, some drivers do use their cell phones irresponsibly.a cellular telephone was not being used” (433).…
Cellphones are used in daily life. Cellphones help others communicate and learn more about a variety of topics on the go. However, some individuals do not use these devices properly. Many drivers have a habit of driving a vehicle while using a cellphone. This has lead to the outlaw of cellphone use while driving. Those who agree with this law believe it will be very helpful to their community, while those against it believe the law infringes on their rights. Those against this law have not considered the positive affects this will have on many citizens. Therefore, cellphone use while driving should not be allowed! Those against the outlaw of cellphone use while driving believe that many important messages and phone calls could be missed or ignored if…
The use of the cell phone in today’s world while driving is becoming a concern for other drivers, pedestrians, as well as law enforcement and legislators. Cases of traffic accidents and/or fatalities involving a distracted driver by the use of this device have become more frequent and are starting to change the prospective on how this topic is being viewed. The comparison of driving while intoxicated by alcohol or drugs is being used to show how the use of a cell phone issue can rapidly progress to the same level of a DUI. Applying new laws and statues of limitations will raise awareness and have better control in preventing accidents in our road ways. Even though the author has some good points about the use of cell phones while driving, his argument is not well organized. The author fails to focus in the topic and lacks evidence. Other than a few points cited form sources, the author’s tone detract from credibility of knowledge about the topic in general.…
As community members, we have responsibilities. One of our most important responsibilities is social responsibility because it requires all of us to make a difference. The issue in the video is using the cell phone while driving. Using a cell phone while driving is an organizational issue because it disrupts the justice system and results in many victims. According to the No Phone Zone video an estimated 812,000 people use mobile devices while driving, one out of three teen drivers admit to texting while driving, 5,870 people were killed and 515,000 people were injured because of distracted drivers (2010). This growing ethical issue has compelled people to take a stand on April 30, 2010 to form an awareness day called No Phone Zone Day (No Phone Zone Day, 2010). Not only is driving while using a cell phone an ethical issue, it is currently a legal issue as well in many states.…
Many examples exists that show the danger of technology and movement combined, such as when people listen to music and are crossing roads, riding bikes in public areas, skateboarding on public roads, crossing railroad tracks, and cannot hear danger like approaching cars, weather sirens or any other dangerous noises. Even the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) warns people of the dangers of riding their bikes with ear coverings which block out noise. An article states “According to the Nationwide study conducted in July, about four in 10 respondents (38 percent) claim to have been hit or nearly hit as a result of other drivers being distracted by cell phones or other technology” (Distracted Driving Causes). This quote shows that technology has distracted a high percentage of people and lead into car wrecks and high percentage of deaths. Research is proven to say more teens have died from technology being distracted. In conclusion research is proven to say the more technology the more deaths, technology is…
There are a lot of people get killed each year because of the cell phone distraction. There are evidence suggests that the relative risk of being in a traffic accident while using a cellphone is similar to the hazard associated with a blood alcohol level at the legal limit. Car accidents caused by distracted drivers continue to become more prevalent as the number of handheld electronic devices continues to grow. It is clear that advances in electronic technology have resulted in a corresponding increase in driver distraction.…
