Should Homosexuals Be Allowed to Marry?
Marriage is a very sacred arrangement. It is a lifetime commitment said to be only between man and woman. These two people should love or be in love with each other. Over the years homosexuality has come to the forefront. The question of should homosexuals be allowed to marry each other has had the world in an uproar. Homosexuals, indeed should be able to marry each other with the same benefits as man and woman.

I chose to write about gay marriage because it is very close and dear to me. I am a proud lesbian! I am not one of those lesbians that hate men, or anything of the sort. In fact, I used to be married to a guy. Things just didn’t work out with him. Needless to say, I gave love another try. This go around it just happen to be with another woman. Now, I get treated differently by the world, even my family. I am a true believer in a person not being able to help who they fall in love with. Should I be treated differently because this person happens to be female? If so, then why? I should be treated as I was treated before my current relationship. I am the same person that my state let marry this man. Why can I not marry this woman? I love her and we both wish to be married, but there are so many states in the United States that do not allow this union. The states that do allow the civil union to take place might as well not. All of the perks and privileges that come along with matrimony, between male and female, are not given to the same sex couples that they allowed to get married. This does not make any sense to me. Why would you allow some to get married and treat them differently when it comes to the rules of the situation at hand? If you allow homosexuals to join hands in a civil union then they should get the same rights. Otherwise, why bother (Jackman, 2011). According to www.christiangays.com, there are many countries that allow the union to take place, and there are countries that do not allow the civil union to take place but recognize the gay marriage. For instance, the countries that recognize the marriage of gays are Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Spain, South Africa, and Argentina. The countries that actually allow the couple to get married are Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, Mexico Switzerland, and United Kingdom. Let it be known that all countries that recognize gay marriage, do not allow the ceremony to take place in their countries. The countries that actually do both (recognize and allow the ceremony) are Norway, Sweden, Portugal, and Iceland (2011).

Like the different countries that allow and recognize gay marriage, there are some states in the United States the does the same. New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and the District of Columbia are the states that recognize the marriage of the same sex. The states that allow the ceremony to take place are New Jersey, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, and Wisconsin. There are also some states that allow gay marriages with provisions. Amongst these are Hawaii, California, New York, and District of Columbia. Provision in this case means ‘under the circumstances of’. The married gay couples do not get the benefits of a header asexual marriage. This basically says that we will let you call yourselves a married couple, but you are not treated as such when it comes down to the business part of things (www.christiangays .com, 2011). New York only recognizes the marriages that take place outside of its state. In my state (Texas), gay marriage is not allowed neither is it recognized. However, I think that we may be getting a few steps closer to breaking some grounds on that subject. A judge stated that she thought that Texas ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional. I’ll explain. A couple...
