Should Cursive Writing Be Taught Today
There are many reasons why I believe cursive writing should still be taught today. For example, handwriting is 50% of literacy. First, cursive helps with your body. For example, your hands brain, etc. Next, for school purposes, students can read documents from the past. Moreover, what about life skills? Such as a simple signature, you need a signature for when you pay for something at the store with a credit or debit card. Those three little things requires cursive. First, cursive writing helps with your brain, secondly, cursive writing helps with the future of your life, and lastly, cursive helps with a lot of school work. In my opinion, cursive should still be taught in schools today.
To begin with, cursive actually helps you with your body.

In addition, I enjoy the process of writing on the paper. I like to listen to the sound that the pen scratches the paper. However, when I am typing essay on the computer, I cannot write smoothly because I usually write some grammar faults in my sentences and the Word will digitally find the faults and display them. I do not enjoy seeing some dashes under my sentences. Therefore, I have to stop to write and correct the faults. Then, my train of thinking is interrupted, and I always fell upset about that. The article "Cursive Is a Powerful Brain Tool" claims that writing by hand helps students retain information better than typing. Though this may be true, a student can type more of the information on a computer than he or she would by writing it. Having more notes and more detailed information to look back on later would have to out weigh the benifit of absorbing the information thru writing it.…

In my College English class I was currently asked “Does writing matter”? When I first heard this question I immediately was going to say no, but I had a change of thought. It seems like the current topic of discussion is our modern technology. Often, when I think about technology, writing doesn’t even come to mind. I then remember that tv shows, advertisement, commercial scripts, instructions, directions, etc, all involves some sort of writing.…

I believe that writing can be a great tool for everyone in order to express themselves freely. Not everyone is a writer; some people have to work at putting their thoughts and words together, before putting them to paper. We are all unique in how we express ourselves; some are just more creative than others. How do we as individuals, get to that point to be able to expand or elaborate further on paper our thoughts? When we have finally gathered our thoughts and start to lay the words down on paper, how do we then decide how to organize them to be able to present them to our audience? In order to start the writing process we have to come up with a topic that we believe would interest others. We then need to do thorough research to have all of our facts and supporting documentation. This would also include making sure that we cite our sources. We never want to plagiarize; using any other persons work without giving them full credit is unethical and dishonest. With that being said, how do we learn to cite our sources properly? How do we determine if the source is accurate? This is all part of learning the writing process. Once we have learned the process, I believe we can all become a great writer if we so choose to be.…

I believe handwriting is important in all grades because students will use this skill for the rest of their lives. Handwriting becomes part of everyday life from the time you are taught it to the time you pass away. You will use handwriting to take notes, make grocery lists, do homework, take tests, and sign your autograph. Students will use handwriting in every subject in school. Everything from math to drawing to language arts will require the use of handwriting on a daily basis. (Spear-Swerling, 2010, para 4). In the primary grades handwriting is linked with basic reading skills as well as reading accomplishments. Once students learn their letters they can then learn the sound behind each letter. This helps them sound out each word in their handwriting, reading, and spelling skills. (Spear-Swerling, 2010, para 5).…

It is a fond memory that is shared with almost all generations learning to write the phrase “the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog” in cursive. It brings me joy to read old letter between my great grandma and Grandpa, or read the beautiful penmanship of the side notes that my ancestors had written in our family bible. Sadly today’s generation may never get to share this memory or experience this sentimental feeling, because cursive is being taken out of today’s curriculum.…

I am certain that cursive may have many pros, but it also argues that there is not enough time to plan teaching cursive writing in school or for students to learn quickly. It can take time away from core or more relevant subject’s cursive writing has benefits to the brain, but still not a reason to teach it as there are other benefits for the brain like the use of technology. Studies have shown proficiency is demonstrated by using a keyboard. Since I have been in school, we have used…

Reading and writing has impacted our lives forever and in so many different ways. Write a letter, text a number, or do homework in a textbook. All these situations and more are due to the fact that people over time and now can read and write. The way we first started communication was through drawings known as hieroglyphics; that then transformed over time into different letters and we could finally write down information. That advancement led us to be able to keep records, talk to people without being face to face, and just write down information. “In my slow, painstaking, ragged handwriting, I copied into my tablet everything printed on the first page, down to the punctuation marks” (Malcolm X 641). Literacy was hard for him to pick up because it was new to him, and also he didn’t have the resources or materials we do now to help him. Communication since then has exploded to the point of other people learning how to read and write other languages and schools being…
