Should College Football Players Be Paid
College football is played by teams of student athletes fielded by colleges, universities, and military academies. College football is a pastime used to promote competition. It is by no means a profession. Professional football is one’s main paid occupation, while college football is an entirely different activity that does not deserve annual salary. A paid salary for college footballers would cause a lot of controversy and isn’t necessary. College football players should not receive an annual salary for their time playing for a college team. People who played college football had already been receiving great benefits before the thought of salary came into play. College footballers receive great advantages over their peers who don’t play a college sport. Financially, people who play football, are better off (Dorfman). Due to these benefits they receive, they don’t have to worry as much about student loans, and if they’re going to get that grant they need to pay tuition costs. There are many factors in football that would cause individual players to receive different salaries. Different players perform at different rates, and would deserve different pay. The idea of choosing a separate salary for each college player has proven to be too questionable (Dabad). Evaluating a player based on their performance and giving different salaries would be unfair because of possible errors (McCauley). Another possible issue with giving college footballers a salary has to do with the different Districts football teams are composed of. Separate Districts play at different levels and would cause employers to find a different flat rate for each Districts, and then they would need to find a rate for each individual (12 Pros and Cons). A potential salary for college players will be complicated and possibly unfair for

In recent years the topic of college football players being paid has been widely discussed, but in reality the fact that this is even a discussion is just ridiculous. College football isn't a job, it is an extracurricular activity students can take part in while in college. Behind this common idea is college football players already are being seen as more privileged and that is not fair to other students and paying college football players will increase that perception. Also if the college football players were paid there must be an organized plan in terms of the pay structure it would it be fairly determined in terms of how to pay the football players and seeing if certain players get paid more than others. Most importantly is the immaturity…

College is a place to start your own future and to be finally out of mom and dad's house and not to be paid for playing a sport. Some people think that college football players should be paid. But others say they shouldn’t be paid because if you get money to go to that school you don't need anymore money for your college career. College football players shouldn't get paid because players receive scholarships for tuition, colleges are lacking in money, and college is not the NFL.…

College football players work very hard, spend a good amount of time practicing, and don’t make a single cent from any of it therefore they should get paid. In the past college football players have not been paid for all of the blood sweat and tears that they put into the sport. In recent years football players such as Chris Burnette, who plays for the University Georgia, are starting to think otherwise.…

In the article that I read I would have to agree with the author. College players should be paid, just because some of them get free education don’t mean that they shouldn’t get paid. College players are just like professional players there’s really no difference now. College athletes bring in more money than the professionals.…

The first reason I think college football players should get paid is that they spend more at football than an average job. An average hours for a job is 33.3 hours a week. For football you spend an average of 43 hours a week (Forbes). It is a lot harder for football players to maintain good grades because they miss a lot classes.…

Money gives food, money gives water, money gives life, but money is not given to collegiate football athletes. The National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA, made a billion dollars on the games during March Madness and even after the nets were cut and a champion was crowned not a single player was give any money. Collegiate football players, or any collegiate player for that matter, should be paid for each game based on how hard they work and how dedicated they are to their sport. The athletes are the basis and the main reason the NCAA makes their millions. In addition, it can give these athletes a financial education and better prepare them for their future. Money is the reason people thrive.…

The notion of paying college athletes has been an ongoing and controversial debate for student-athletes, coaches, schools, media and most certainly the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Many would argue that playing major college sports is more like a job versus an extracurricular activity. As with the majority of many student athletes, some attend college with the aspiration of becoming professional players thereby college is seen as a means to end. Although student-athletes already receive compensation via full and partial scholarships to participate at the college level, passionate conversations will continue to be a topic of debate because of the enormous revenue generated by college sports.…

College football, as well as men’s and women’s basketball, are the money makers as far as collegiate athletics is concerned. Most other programs are actually cash strapped. Therefore, the issue becomes should only football and basketball college athletes be paid? (Patterson, 2016). Also, how would you choose who gets paid what and where does the money come from? Who should pay the athletes the colleges or television networks or does it come from an outside source? In my opinion just like I stated before they should be paid but I do think that it might be hard to accomplish this because what about the students before them and the ones before them. What do they have to say if colleges start paying players and left them out of the…

Basketball legend, Michael Jordan once said, “in college I never realized the opportunities available to a pro athlete. I've been given the chance to meet all kinds of people, to travel and expand my financial capabilities, to get ideas and learn about life, to create a world apart from basketball.” College players still do not have the same amenities that professional athletes have. Why not give the college athlete a portion of what professionals get since they are working just as hard in their respective sport? With all the money that flows in and out of college sports, college athletes should be paid for playing for their school. Paying the amauter athlete would open up many new windows for not only the player,…

Over the past decades, what has continued to be one of the most debatable issues in the world of sports is whether or not college football players should get paid. My honest opinion is football that players should receive a certain proportion of money because of the service that college athletes provide to the institution they attend. In addition, they should be rewarded in a reasonable manner after putting their bodies out on the line, bringing in a tremendous amount of money, it will help with the football athletes to begin creating a sense of financial awareness, and finally it will attract more talented athletes.…

$53.4 Million the combined salary of the top 15 paid coaches in division 1 college football, $0 the combined salary of all student-athletes. Over the past few decades, college athletics have gained popularity across the United States. Whether it is football, basketball, or baseball, ever since the turn of the century, intercollegiate sports have brought in a surplus of revenue to their respective Universities. A recent study found that the University of Texas’ Athletic Program had the highest revenue of any other University at a little over $120 million. Yet with this large sum of money, NO college athletes are legally compensated for their work. According to NCAA rules, “You are not eligible for participation in a sport if you have ever: Taken pay or the promise of pay, for competing in that sport”. While it may seem odd and unjust to pay college athletes, the reality is that compensation of such athletes is a necessity not only to keep competition at a steady level in college athletics, but also to encourage students to graduate and get their college degrees.…

The FBS (NCAA) does not get paid. They’re amateur athletes who are playing because of a scholarship and they don’t have the luxury of millions of millions of dollars. Is the incentive different when trying to play for money or when you are trying to play for an education? This point only reflects for a majority of the college kids, because the handful that will get drafted in the first round, know they will eventually be getting their paycheck.…

The Coach of a football team is just as important as any player performing on the field. In fact his power over the team surpasses that of any one single player, the coach can determine whether an entire season is a victory or a loss. Perhaps this is why Colleges justify paying a coach millions of dollar a year, but the players who are out there beside him next to nothing. Although a lot of the players that perform on the field week by week do get scholarships to help their tuition fees, food, and housing, this pales in comparison to the millions of dollars that the schools will bring in every season of football. It is wrong for colleges to use athletes to make money and not pay them or allow them to earn money in anyway involving their sport.…
