Short Term Education Goals
For some reason, ever since I began classes in high school, any class that had anything to do with business has always stood out to me. It all began when I took global business my freshmen year. Due to that class and the several other business classes I’ve taken because of it, whenever asked “what I want to be when I grow up?” “business management” has always been the answer. But I’ve also always had a huge passion for sports, both playing and watching. This zeal for sports should be credited to my father, who always took the time to bring me and my sisters to sporting events since we were very young. My intrigue in business combined with my love for sports has got me to chose a career in sports management. Specifically, representing athletes. …show more content…
I started off high school not trying the hardest and being lazy. A quick look at my freshmen and sophomore grades will show that. But reality hit me my junior year and I didn’t feel like ending high school with the grades I had been getting. I began working harder at my school work and the better grades followed. I now know what hard work does for the grades and I’m dedicated to improve my gpa before I graduate. My long term education goals would be attending the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. I really enjoy everything involving business and finances and would like to get a degree in general business. While there I would also like to minor in sports management and, if possible, business

Kristina Navarro’s journal article, “An Examination of the Alignment of Student-Athlete’s Undergraduate Major Choices & Career Field Aspirations in Life After Sports” examines the unique situations collegiate student-athletes(SA) navigate while working toward a degree and planning for their future. Few research studies exist that focuses solely on the SA population and Navarro’s research was aimed at understanding the impact of life experiences on choosing a major and how the chosen major lines up with their career aspirations (Navarro, 2015). The 29 voluntary participants…

Today, I am a graduate of CUNY Baruch College with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Operations Management. Although undeniably rewarding, the road to graduation was, to say the least, strenuous. When I began the pursuit of an undergraduate degree, I was determined on becoming an accountant. However, instead of solidifying my interest in this major, the demanding curriculum along with being employed full time took a toll on my GPA. As a result, I came to the realization that…

Left behind in the frenzy is the much needed college education that no one seems to care about any more. During my off season from soccer, I plan to be a sports commentator for ESPN or to open up my own personal training business. This will help me to make more money and allow me to continue to work after I retire from professional soccer. I would like to eventually be asked to commentate for the women’s FIFA world cup. If I do not follow through with my main plan because of injury or loss of interest, I would like to go to college solely for a degree in business and sports education. As an Accounting major, I am very interested and have become fond of learning about the varying business aspects within the sports industry. As a result, I decided to conduct my interview with a professional that is associated with the business operations of athletics. The person that I interviewed was Dawn Reynolds, the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business and Finance here at the University of Miami. After initially getting in contact with Ms. Reynolds a few weeks ago, I was finally able to meet with her briefly and conduct my interview on November 30, 2010, in room 261 in the Hecht Athletics Center. Just to give a bit of background information about Ms. Reynolds, she is from Elmira, New York and now currently resides in Coral Gables, Florida. She graduated from the University of Miami with a major in Finance and started her career at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia where she worked for four years as their budget coordinator. As a past president of the College Athletics Business Managers Association, she was named the College Athletic Business Manager of the Year in 2003 and has since served on various committees including the ACC Finance Committee and chairs the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee. She has worked with the University of Miami for the past 20 years and is currently the Chief Fiscal Officer for the Department and is a member of the executive management team. Below is a list of ten questions and answers from the interview I conducted:…

Before attending community college, high school proved to be difficult in a very unexpected way. In my experience, high school failed to present any challenge. I quickly became more interested in things other than schoolwork, which was seemingly repetitive and irrelevant to my goals. Thus, at the start of my Junior year of highschool, I made a critical decision that affected me academically thereafter. Enrolling as a full-time Running Start student at Everett Community College immediately introduced me to a fast-paced learning environment that was more suitable to my goals pertaining to business. Quickly, my grades improved and I became passionate about the things I studied, in both business and nonbusiness courses. However, being a Running…

Coming into college I told myself that I will not let my GPA fall anything lower than a 3.3 because that is the GPA I ended with in highschool. All throughout highschool I was so upset with myself due to the fact that my GPA was so low. Finishing my first semester of my freshman year of college I was really proud of myself! I have never ever in my life seen my GPA so high I literally almost cried. I worked really hard for my GPA to look like that on the right. My GPA is one thing that will constantly stress me out for the four years here at the University of Bridgeport. I see my GPA as a challenge for me because it will continue to push me to my full potential. While working throughout my semester I know that my GPA will reflect my hard work…

December 13th 2014 was one of the best days in my life. I still recall seeing my son and family in the stands as the president of the university mentioned for the family of the graduates to stand up and be recognized. I worked so hard that year and I was able to reach my goal and I am extremely proud of myself for that. As you can see in my transcript the last year I obtained above a 3.0 GPA in every semester. I am confident that if accepted I will work hard and do everything in my power to excel to the best of my abilities. My plan to raise my GPA is to organize myself and set time every day to study and go over class material. I understand that the graduate program is more difficult but I am determined to apply myself and get the grades needed to be successful. I look forward to learning a lot more in detail about my career field. I have a great desire to help people with disabilities explore their needs, manage their symptoms, and successfully live their lives. It is important to focus on a person’s capability rather than their disability. For this reason, I hold a special connection with this program and immense passion in raising public awareness about…
