Short Story Of Rocky Whiteshadow
The boy’s heart skipped a beat when he saw the sunrise emerging from behind the pointed mountaintops. “Rocky, you need to see this!” He shouted to his friend, who was only just awakening from a long night’s sleep.
“What is it, Takashi?” A very tired Rocky replied. Takashi said nothing more, for he only needed to point toward the brilliant light above them. They both stared at it for a good amount of time before agreeing to continue on their journey.
Rocky Whiteshadow and Takashi Ashikaga were both orphans whose parents had died in an attack on their village only a few years prior; they have been best friends ever since. They now have decided to embark on a quest to find a place they can call home, and possibly live out the rest of their lives

"Down Main Street, then a left on Hannover Street for 5 miles, and a right on Rabbit Run" Allan Atoll vaguely remembered. "That seems right, right?" Allan questioned the group. "The farther from Charleston the better! I hope nothing freaky crawls out of that hole" snapped Jenny Rainier. "Get your mind off science fiction and let's get on the move." Winston's remark silenced the refugees. "I suppose so, Mr. Fitch" mumbled Jenny. The air hung low, heavy, and thick. The occasional wall of wind nipped at they group with its coldness. It seemed as though only boots marching onward could sever the tense air.…

The American dream is seen as opportunity and high achievements, but this wasn't always the case for those who lived in America. For those of African and Native American decent the American dream was anything but a dream. These two races received discrimination, false hopes, and experienced turmoil. In the writings of Zitkala Sa (Gertrude Simmons Bonnin) and James Weldon Johnson these troubling times are explained from the perspective of those living or witnessing these wrong doings. The African Americans and Native Americans experienced America as less than equals while enduring discrimination, as objects that needed improvement, and as very intelligent human beings held back by their race.…

Looking down at my predicament, I saw a steep vertical drop that led into a crystal clear river that flowed between two main opposing canyon slopes. Everything below comprised of layered rocks, cliffs, hills, and valleys, with the occasional hint of green pine trees and plenty of bushes. The air was rich and clear at the same time. A subtle, cool breeze grazed through my thick wolley jacket and reminded me of the potential coldness of mountain weather. The sun brightened at that very moment and heated my cold body. Soon, the sun light spread throughout all of the rocky lands and gave everything a red-orange hue. “Wow what is that!?” my cousin exclaimed. Everyone turned their heads upward. Far into the clear blue sky, a pair of eagles gracefully maneuvered around a puffy white…

softness. Under the lingering spell of his dream, her golden hair, which fell in rippling curls, seemed like a halo of purity and innocence and peace, irradiating the atmosphere around her. It is true the thought occurred to Ben, vaguely, that through harm to her he might inflict the greatest punishment upon her father; but the idea came like a dark shape that faded away and vanished into nothingness as soon as it came within the nimbus that surrounded the child's person. The child was moving on to pluck still another flower, when there came a sound of hoof-beats, and Ben was aware that a horseman, visible through the shrubbery, was coming along the curved path that led from the gate to the house. It must be the man he was waiting for, and now was the time to wreak his vengeance. He sprang to his feet, grasped his club, and stood for a moment irresolute. But either the instinct of the convict, beaten, driven, and debased, or the influence of the child, which was still strong upon him, impelled him, after the first momentary pause, to flee as though seeking safety. His flight led him toward the little girl, whom he must pass in order to make his escape, and as Colonel Thornton turned the corner of the path he saw a desperate-looking negro, clad in filthy rags, and carrying in his hand a murderous bludgeon, running toward the child, who, startled by the sound of footsteps, had turned and was looking toward the approaching man with wondering eyes. A sickening fear came over the father's heart, and drawing the ever-ready revolver, which according to the Southern custom he carried always upon his person, he fired with unerring aim. Ben Davis ran a few yards farther, faltered, threw out his hands, and fell dead at the child's feet. * * * * *…

My father focused on the horizon through the morning dew that covered the kitchen window. His hands fidgeting with the cross that hanged from his neck. With a small glimpse of light appearing, he fixed himself upright, proud, straight and still. His hands brushed the victory medal as he saluted to the rising sun that glared over the nation. Without hesitation, back straight, hands stiff and elbows bent, I mimicked as he turned to face me. His impassive expression suddenly filled with colour as he lifted me onto his shoulder.…
