Sheriff Hale's Short Story: Sheriff Hale
“Nothing.” Adeline shook her head. The baby turned inside her. What a wonderful experience. If she was blessed to have a dozen more children, she’d never tire of the experience. “The baby’s getting annoyed with the sleeping arrangements.”
Sheriff Hale’s gaze flitted from her face to her stomach. Impulsively, she took his hand and pressed it against her stomach. His hand was so warm and gentle. Her breath hitched. She glanced at his face. His eyes widened. Anticipation glowed on his face.
“Just wait.” She moved his hand over her stomach.
The corner of his mouth twitched as he bit his lip. Waiting. He looked adorable.
The baby moved again. “Did you feel it?” She grinned when a powerful kick followed.
The look of wonder on his face warmed her.

Charlotte Johnston been sitting at a black top table surrounded by a group of chatty students her own age. And hadn't been paying much attention to what the teacher was saying, because everything zoned out, besides appearances and movements. Mr. Hube was wearing a bright purple sweater with tan khakis, and was extra fidgety. Something got him all hot and bothered, and it was obvious. His pale blue eyes glanced the room, and the pauses, he worried his lower lip, driving Charlotte crazy, that his outfit choice was bold for a teacher and that he appeared nervous to speak in front of his own class.…

Her soft, slightly-warm fingers garnished with perfectly polished works of art on each, as they caress and gently carve their way through the scruff of his face, and then as they cascade past his lower ear only to pause there. . . While resting on the left-most part of his neck, every crease of the delicately sculpted hand is defined and absorbed by his thoughts. However, such clarity dissipates as his wife then proceeds to quietly and calmly utilize this lever she has just created to smoothly pull him towards the small opening between her soft, full…

He was there too, for a time, briefly, looking at her. There was a different kind of tension presented in that moment, though, as I surveyed him; his eyes were not soft like John’s, but hard and erratic, moving back and forth in nearly invisible movements. He looked like he was trapped, struggling to restrain himself.…

    Sheriff Prejudice Essay

Prejudice, in particular, prejudice directed at women, helps the men decide whether an object can serve as evidence. Before the County Attorney walks upstairs, he questions Sheriff Peters: “Are you convinced that there is nothing important here [in the kitchen]—nothing important that would point to any motive?” Although Mr. Henderson is willing to consider the kitchen objects as evidence, he relies on Sheriff Peter’s evaluation of the kitchen. The sheriff responds: “Nothing here but kitchen things.” The sheriff’s response evinces prejudice; instead of telling Mr. Henderson about the broken preserve jar, an abnormality calling for further investigation, he determines the ‘kitchen things’ worthless because women use them. The sheriff, however,…

If they had recalled how we obtained our name, they would have left a sleeping dragon alone and I would not be here.” (Actions and so forth.) “Any fool can make a rule. And any fool will mind it. The rules that they made, we followed some, but we are not asinine. Many of their rules were useless to us, more like guidelines that told of to be careful, and we were. At home no human harmed us they were our kin and we protected each other. But to some these broke the Hale’s rules.” (Actions and shit) “When you seek revenge, dig two graves. The night my…
