Shadowing My Sister Essay
There are many people that would fit the mold of what kind of person I was looking for to shadow, but after much contemplation I decided on my sister, Gabriela Mladin. One of the key reasons that I chose my sister, Gabriela is that she is always ready to help people that are in need of assistance. For example, there are countless times where she sacrificed her time to take me to soccer practice and would always go out of her way to bring me food. Another great reason for choosing my sister would be that it is easy to follow her and see how she approaches different obstacles in life. The third and final reason I chose to follow her around is that she works at a fast casual restaurant named PDQ, and that is the same place would like to work at during high school.
The first day of shadowing my sister at her job was kind of awkward with all the other employes. In the morning she had to go to an event and help promote and sell PDQ. The event was actually really fun meeting all those new people and just practicing working for a well known food chain. There is so much more that goes into selling a restaurant than the actual buying of food. However, once we got back to the restaurant it was boring because I had to sit there and

When I was speaking to her, something interesting stood out to me that she said,”At first this was just a summer job, but I have grown to love working here with great people and meeting all different kinds of people that pass through here.” She then elaborated by telling me how PDQ partners with differents organizations to give back to the community. For example, they offer tours and lunch to girl scouts, taking their time to educate them about the importance of healthy eating and a diet free of additives that could harm their body. This taught me how food plays such an important role in your life concerning your appearance, mood, and

My first job was as a sales person of eye glasses at a Christmas fair. I was hired for one month with no day off to sell glasses during the month of December for a small retailer. I was responsible for the eye glasses to be displayed and clean, and sell them. It was not easy because I had to wake up early, open the shop; and my day finished at 8-9 pm when the store closed. It was a very busy time of the year. It was a very hard one month but there was nothing more satisfying then the first pay check, then I knew I did a good job. There is no embarrassing job if you learn to do it with pride and respect.…

I interviewed Joanna Hawkins. She works in a private organization for dialysis, called Fresenius Medical Care. It is in Birmingham, Alabama. She has been working with this agency for 12 years. The primary tasks she completes everyday are, going around to all the 24 chairs that they have patients at and tell them hello and ask them how they are doing. She will then ask them if they need anything, whether that be need for transportation, need for medications, need for help with their home environment, or need for general support. She works with three different clinics, so she only gets to see the patients at each clinic once a week. When she talks to each patient she must make sure she takes good notes, that way she can help each patient with…

She worked with me a lot to help me find events that fit into my schedule and was very flexible on allowing me to show up whenever I needed in order to get my hours. During this project I learned many valuable lessons, but I would say that the two that have stuck with me most are the impact of volunteering and the importance of selflessness. ACA is a completely volunteer run organization and would not be here to help the animals if it were not for volunteers like myself who devote their personal time during the week through the goodness of their heart. Volunteers help to ensure that no animals are euthanized and foster dogs who are at a potential risk for euthanization even if puts a strain on themselves. I did not realize until after completing my volunteer…

Being a bus boy for this restaurant was probably the most difficult thing to do. Not only did I have to clean tables off, but I also had to sit people down and get their drinks. The bussers had to constantly walk back and forth through the dining area to make sure people got what they wanted. It got real tiring after a while, especially if you weren’t wearing comfortable shoes. At the end of a long day my feet would be killing me, but I guess it was also my fault for not wearing comfortable shoes. Rush hour was never fun, that’s when we had to really hustle around the restaurant and tend to people other wise we weren’t going to have happy customers. I had to clean tables and get them set just as fast so that the people waiting up front could sit down and usually I would have to clean a table by myself during rush hour because the other bussers were either busy or we didn’t have enough bussers which always made me mad because I would have to do double the work in the same amount of time as if there was another busser helping me. It was very stressful and demanding on me, but in my opinion the worst part of being a busser had to be brining dinner tables up and down the basement stairs when we had big parties come in. The tables were big and heavy and the staircase was super narrow and curved. So when we got to the curve the other busser and me had to lift it over our heads to get around the bend and to make things even more difficult there was always stuff on the steps so we had to make sure we didn’t trip over anything. Then came the door, the most challenging obstacle to get through with the…

For my job shadowing experience, I went to the Henry Ford museum. I wasn’t around any of my fellow students, but there were other people there. The experience was mostly directed towards a group, and explaining a majority of the jobs that you could have there from guest services to security. It wasn’t really personalized or narrowed down, so you got a lot of exposure in just eight hours. The people who were overseeing this mass job shadow, Jim and Tim were pretty lively. It was pretty clear that they loved what they did.…

I remember when I first went to go take an interview for a job. To start, it was my first time and I was very nervous. I would stutter my words when I talked. My hands were getting really sweaty. Most importantly, I couldn’t make eye contact with the person that was interviewing me. Instead, I let my eyes wander all over the place. Another reason that my first interview was so memorable is because besides doing a bad job in the interview, I got the job. At the end of my interview, I was given a schedule. I was then told to come to work the next day to start training. I felt so lucky in getting the job. The third reason that my first interview was so memorable was because out of my brothers and I, I was the only one to get a job on the…
