There are people in this life that God calls to the mission field. To give up everything that they own and cherish so they can follow the path of putting people’s needs ahead of their own. Choosing this path is never an easy choice. Often, difficulties involving this lifestyle are leaving family behind, leaving the comfort of a stable home, not knowing where your money will come from, heartbreak, sickness, and even death. This is a life that God called Jim Elliot to.
Jim Elliot was raised in a Christian home. He had two parents that loved the Lord and trained him up in the ways of glorifying God. At the early age of six he recognized his need for Christ and accepted Him into his life. From that day on Jim was determined to live a life dedicated to Christ. He was very passionate about his Lord and shared his faith with everyone he came in contact with.
Jim started to really become interested in missions while he was studying at the Wheaton College. He did missions trips, with college classmates, throughout the United States. After his second year of college he went to Mexico to work with and learn from local missionaries. Jim knew his life was headed in the direction of missions, he just didn’t know where. While working alongside a former missionary, Jim was told about the Auca Indians of Ecuador.
Jim knew his job was not going to be working inside the United States, he just didn’t know if he was supposed to go to Ecuador or India. He was originally planning on going to India, but his curiosity grew so much for the savage Indians of Ecuador that he knew he was being called to South America. After completing college he set out for Ecuador with a friend named Pete Fleming.
They arrived in Ecuador February of 1952. His main goal was to evangelize to the Auca Indians in the jungle. Needing to first learn the language of Spanish he lived outside of the jungle in the village of Quito. After moving into the jungle
