Selma Movie Analysis

The film we saw in class was the drama history movie Selma. The top 5 characters of the movie are Dr. Martin Luther King Jr (David Oyelowo), Coretta Scott King (Carmen Ejogo), President Lyndon B. Johnson (Tom Wilkinson), Malcolm X (Nigel Thatch) and, Andrew Young ( André Holland). The movie is famous as it takes place during the famous 1965 Selma March, when black people were taking a stand and letting their voices be heard about the unequal voting rights they have compared to whites. Martin Luther King Jr. meets with President Johnson and ask for black citizens to gain the right to vote after the attacks that have taken place however, is turned down by Johnson. Taking matters into his own hands along with others he travels to Selma insight of Coretta concerns for him. She proves to be right because it results in him getting arrested along with other Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) after the death of a white officer. In order to help King Jr she meets with Malcolm X who states that he with get the white to help him. After leaving jail the world famous 1965 Selma
Anybody can watch this movie and will learn how history was made. It can appeals to any age group and especially those in school who are learning about the 1965 Selma March. I enjoyed this movie because of how the actors and actress were able to play their role and learn how to by mostly reading documents and watching videos. I especially enjoyed the main view of the movie which was the Selma March itself in the it showed how the march went on and how the black people were being treated by the white police and K-9’s showing no remorse. This goes to show what a difficult time black people had in trying to get equal rights. I would give this movie a rating of 5 stars because it’s about how history was made and help shaped the way America is
