Evaluation Essay

This is my self-evaluation essay. Throughout this essay I am going to explain how my writing has changed. From the first day of class to my last piece presented in my portfolio. I will also explain my strengths and weaknesses as a writer and how I have grown throughout this semester.

I enrolled into Eng 1201 and was not adapted for what was to come in any way I had an I idea of the challenges that faced me but had no idea. I knew how to write specific essays, but I had limited strengths in writing. My Summary and Critique essays were improperly formatted, they had weak sentence structure, and I had too many run on sentences. Inspite of the odds against me I have tried

I have also related current events to the english assignments we have been working on throughout the semester and I have really enjoyed that. To be able to relate personal reading and current events to each experience in class by responding with a clear head and deductive reasoning is a very good thing. My English writing skills have improved dramatically through reading many novels, textbooks and essays, because one cannot write the english language unless one reads it as well. This semester's course has taught me about reading, writing, and the use of proper grammar. I also have learned the lesson that correcting each draft can bring you one step closer to neat and stupendous final draft. My first strong point as a student in English class was the ability to summarize effectively a source or material. I felt that I was the best at assignments where I could express my opinion in an essay. I found it very tough to write papers and be non objective. . My second strong point was participating in class and trying to attend class everyday. I do not think I have missed a day yet. One of my favorite assignments this semester was the mediatory essay it was very interesting. It was not my best paper and I felt it was my hardest piece to write but I liked the material I had to work with. I found the subject very riveting and could

The following are three essays that I worked on during the semester. Most of it remains the same, while some of my ideas have developed. The only major changes made were redirecting the ideas in the Where is Waldo Now essay. In English 1102 I struggled with a lot, Professor Grant really challenged what I thought I knew about writing. Being that English is my second language, language barriers normally do not reflect in my speech or writing. I felt that this semester really showed me that I still had work to do. Passive voice, comma slices, forming arguments, and grammar are some of the many skills that I worked on during this semester. I attended the Writing Center as often as I could; I also asked questions during office hours. I worked on perfecting these skills in my other classes as well by reading out loud. By exploring these different options my essay grades improved 15 points. Hopefully my portfolio and future papers reflects the time and practice I’ve put into my writing.…

After completing the StregthsQuest survey, I learned that my five greatest strengths are Harmony, Competition, Achiever, Includer, and Communication. Some of these strengths I had previously recognized as a strength, but a few were a surprise to me. Growing up, I was always a competitive person. I enjoyed the thrill of winning, whether it be in a team effort or individual effort. Also, I have always wanted to achieve great things in both my personal and professional life. I believe that I have always been great at communicating with others and love to include others in everything that I do to achieve a goal. The biggest strength of mine that surprised me most was Harmony. However, after reading about each strength, I know how I have utilized…

WOW, this semester has really seemed to quickly fly by! Although, I haven’t had much time to think about whether I’m excited or disappointed for its arrival, I do know that I have learned a whole lot about myself and my writing skills. In English 1157 I learned that organizing and effective topic shifting was the most difficult, yet valuable, part of the essay writing process for me. If I could pass on any advice to future English 1157 students it would be this, “For those who feel the pressure from the difficulties often associated with essay writing, remember one thing, practice creates improvement.”…

Over the course of this year in English, I think my writing process has excelled the most along with my overall writing. In the past, I have used similar techniques to develop a final essay, but, this year, I have begin to rely more heavily on planning out and slowly chipping away at my essays and papers. I believe also that because of this planning the strength of my writing as a whole has grown. Personally, I do not think that I grew in my vocabulary usage. Overall this year, I grew as a writer in ways that I would not have predicted.…

My writing has changed a lot in my first-semester essay writing class. I finally took a class that teaches me useful information and how to properly write an essay. Essay Writing overall was a fun experience it was a slow start for me in the beginning but once I was able to get the work done I was fine. There were a lot of positives to taking this class. I started the year struggling to come up with ideas to write about nut now I can brainstorm and put my words down on the paper better than ever. “If I could travel anyplace in the world for free, I would want to go to North Korea. I would love to see what it's like.” I struggled with proper punctuation and the use of commas and such throughout my high school career and I still struggle with it I hope to learn more about it in the near future. “Cars are one of the best inventions ever.” I needed some direction on making my sentences longer with getting to the point at the same time. There's a lot of small things I need to still improve on but I feel like I got a good start with the Essay Writing course. I got a lot of useful feedback from Mrs.Pennings on all my essays like when to use certain words and proper punctuation and some compliments the really…

When someone is doing something that they love, it is not the wrong choice no matter what anybody else says. Even if they are told that they are the worst, they should keep going because if they truly enjoy it, then the situation turns around 360 degrees around and they’ll become exceptional at it. I enjoy writing a lot. When I am writing, I feel like I can do anything. I can write about a princess trapped in a tower or a pirate searching for lost treasure. There's overwhelming choices to write about and each and every choice is infinite. When I first started writing, I was struggling. My writing was all over the place and it was just a huge mess. But, I still tried my best to overcome the obstacle and continue to do what I love doing. The end result of my pursuit was what someone can call a success, I am now in English Honours. Even though my writing skills were in a considerably poor quality, I did not give up and continued to do what makes me happy.…

Over the quarter of this semester I have completed a total of three essays. Throughout my coursework I have been able to identify my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. Going through graded papers I have identified my strengths to be using sensory language well to convey a vivid picture, using proper verb tense, and organization of an overall paper. However, I frequently struggle with comma errors and using transitions to create cohesion throughout an essay.…

This class has taught me many things about myself along with many necessary skills needed while writing. I know now that, through hard work and determination, I can achieve what I might think to be impossible. While reflecting back on my initial writing abilities, I see the weak, uneducated style of writing. Each essay shows my progression and improvement, and, after a while, the class began to become much easier. Before taking English 101A, I was not confident in my writing ability. I never was able to wrap my head around what I was supposed to do and often wrote off topic. I would spend too much time looking at the screen thinking of what to write. My essays often turned out to be a summary; this was reoccurring. I feel that this class strongly helped me develop some standard and basic skills for writing an essay. The amount of time we spent breaking down each of the three essays was very helpful for me. It helped me really realize that I need to get into deeper thought to correctly analyze the text and put it on paper. I have obtained the knowledge from learning in the classroom that acquiring the ability to thoroughly analyze, make points for my body paragraphs, create a thesis, etc., is much simpler than I made it for myself prior. I now realize that I overthought too much while writing essays. I used to try to perfect every sentence as I wrote or typed. I found myself using so much time doing this. I found that just writing my ideas and thoughts down first, while ignoring diction, punctuation, and the flow of the sentences, and revising after made for a much more efficient and successful process. My experience in this class has really opened my eyes to realize that essay writing is a much simpler process than I thought it to be.…

Since I have not heard any rumors about English 101, I cannot judge how this class may go for me. English and Writing is not one of my strengths but I really believe this class will help me turn my weakness into a strength. The way we were taught to write formal essays in high school are nearly the same as it is in college. Using the MLA format was big in my high school because we were told it was going to be a necessity in college. Something different about this class is having to write everyday. Every time we enter this class we should have a piece of writing ready to discuss and peer edit.…
