Self-concept and Real Self
Self: A person's essential being that distinguishes them from others, esp. considered as the object of introspection or reflexive action.

Real Self: Real self is who actually we are. It is how we think, how we feel, how we look, and how we act. The real self can be seen by others, but because we have no way of truly knowing how others view us, the real self is our self-image.

Ideal Self: The Ideal Self is an idealized version of yourself created out of what you have learned from your life experiences, the demands of society, and what you admire in your role models.

Self Concept: The term self-concept is a general term used to refer to how someone thinks about or perceives themselves.The self concept is how we think about and evaluate ourselves.

Factors Affecting self-concept:
A. Family – the most important relationship during the infancy and childhood. Early relationship is built on effective attachment to parents and close family members. The sense of security and being loved that develop on these bonds are key ingredients in a positive self-concept.

B. Pierce and Friend – tend to boost a person’s self-esteem and self-confidence and help to develop social skills.

C. Physical Appearance – how we present ourselves and how we believe how others see us in particularly important to us young adults. Physical features, their clothes and their non-verbal behavior all influence and express as aspects of self concept.

D. Intelligence and Abilities – open to suggestion of who and what they are
