School Uniform Persuasive Essay
If you ask me, I’ve never really been too hype about the idea of school uniforms. I don’t know which I hate more, the idea of looking like the other 200 girls in my school or having to wear the same thing every day. Though imagine never having to worry about matching those cute blue jeans to some shirt in your closet or shopping for name brands you can’t even afford. Even though school uniforms reduce one's expression of individuality, they level the playing field ,encourage a healthy learning environment and cut down bullying and pressure among students.
School uniforms level the playing field and help reduce bullying among students. When everyone is dressed alike your social class tends to matter less and the urge to segregate one from a friend group decreases. Uniforms reduce teasing towards students who wear less fashionable or inexpensive clothing. As a matter of fact “surveyed school leaders with a school uniform or formal dress code policy in place believe their current policy has made a significant, positive impact on peer pressure (86 percent) and bullying (64 percent)”. (National Survey of School Leaders Reveals 2013 School Uniform Trends) This shows that school uniforms level the playing field and reduce bullying and peer pressure among students. At school, “when all students are wearing the same outfit, they are less concerned about how they look and how they fit in with their peers; thus, they can concentrate on their schoolwork". (ProCon.org) When everyone is wearing the same outfit that eliminates classroom distractions ,so students are more likely to pay attention in class.
