I think that dress codes need to be more lenient with their rules. One of the rules is the fingertip shorts rule.In the summer kids are allowed to wear summer clothes but, when you come to school then it's a different. When it is still hot tall people have to wear jeans because the shorts are not fingertip length.I feel this rule to be a little easier for short girls. In some schools this is a problem the have to face so some are trying doing it to a inch length since not all arms are the same length. In this I think that dress codes are ok to have but, they need to change a little bit.If dress code fit people's bodies and personally style to feel good about themselves the would be more willing to go by dreads code. All schools under law have to have a dress code but, some schools are going a little overboard with this dress code. Some schools are just going to the extreme by expelling some kids just because they didn't follow dress code. Now let's all agree that have a dress code is good but, are they going overboard or just making us wear more “school

The first reason the dress code is is bad is because the rules are ridiculous. The school system makes horrible rules for students, like girls not being able to show their shoulders. There is nothing wrong with a shoulder as long as the shirt does not go down too far to show anything, also not being able to show their bra strap. Everyone knows that most girls in high school wear bras. People make a big deal about girls wearing “spaghetti straps” because it is too revealing to the girl's shoulders. In the spring…

The purpose of the dress code is to have a better understanding that students do not come here to show off their style, but to come here to learn and get a better education. Students fail to realize the difference between dressing for success and dressing to impress. Dress code is nothing new to our society; many jobs require you to wear certain types of clothing or a uniform. Therefore, these schools are simply preparing their students to have a successful and bright future. Students should be more concerned about what they can learn, not what they can or cannot wear. Education is what motivates student’s people to the top of the platform their wardrobe. “Be careless in your dress if you will, but keep a tidy soul (Twain)”. Students should beware, their future will not depend on…

What is fair? What is fair when it comes to schools dress code? Parents have said when they were in high school they could wear off-the shoulder crop tops with their low-rise jeans and chucks and be just fine. Smithville High School has made strict rules on what to wear to be less “distracting to the learning environment.” But it’s a natural thing for people to be attracted to others, whether it's our personalities, our smile, in this case, our skin. Some private, and some public schools have school uniforms to become “equal” and to be “one.” But why is our school making the things we are wearing a big deal. AND it's even “bad” enough we have to be removed from our education because we are “such a distraction to the…

I say there shouldn’t be dress code for Magnet Schools. If it is middle schools then yes, but not in high school. As it is some magnet middle/high schools you have to apply to get into. If you don't apply you can’t go. I feel like high school’s shouldn’t have to get a dress code because what if you can't afford to buy buy uniforms or collar shirts. That goes for guys and girls because what if you can't afford more than one uniform or skirts for the girls and some collar shirts. It may prepare you for a job to look well presented but not all kids could afford the clothes. The school may look well presented but I feel if they wanted to dress code they should support with the uniforms. So there shouldn't be a dress code but there should be a…

The cost of having two wardrobes 2. the lack of individuality it gives the students and 3. the continue of bullying which is what most schools say is why they had dress code in the first place. I strongly disagree with the fact of the shorts dress code rule being 6 inches or mid-thigh because if your shorts are 6 inches and not mid-thigh you can be dress coded; also if you shorts are mid-thigh and not 6 inches you can again be dress coded. I believe it is unfair because it gets to the point of you not knowing if the shorts are in dress code that you have to wear jeans all year even when its 100 degrees out side. It is also very inconsistent with people getting dress coded and people getting warnings and not being sent in to be dress coded. I personally agree that students should not be wearing booty shorts to school because it is very inappropriate and not expectable, but I do not agree with the fact that some people get dress coded due to the fact that their teacher or a staff member is in a bad mood on day and the next time they wear the same shorts they don’t! In a way the issue can not be fixed but it can be discussed and more consistent. The fact that it can be one 6 inches or the other mid-thigh is logically not fair due to the fact that you do not know what one it has to be. Also you can only be dress coded a certain amount of times until there is extreme consequences. So you do not want to risk the fact of wearing shorts that you don’t know will be in dress code or will not be, and you just wear jeans even though it is extremely hot out side and you risk having a heat stroke. Therefore those are some reasons why the dress code rule for shorts which is 6 inches or mid-thigh is unfair and should be discussed. Even if the rule can not be entirely fixed whether you get dress coded or not, the fact of having the term “6 inches or mid-thigh” should be fixed so girls will know what they can go out and look for to wear to school because its not fair to go out and buy new shorts for school, then you figure out that they are out of dress code because they are not either 6…

All throughout my schooling, I was plagued by a dress code. It felt as if I could not wear anything that I wanted. It seemed like I always was told “Your shorts are too short” or “You aren’t supposed to wear legging without a long shirt” or my personal favorite from teachers was “Your spaghetti straps are inappropriate”. The dress code really used to piss me off for many reasons. For one, I always felt like dress codes were used as a way to punish girls that were curvier than others. Then I felt like the dress code was stupid because it basically told females that we shouldn’t wear certain clothes because it would be distracting to the boys. I mean like what guy is really going to look at my shoulder and think “that’s one sexy shoulder right there”. Regardless of how I personally feel/felt about dress codes, I was set with the task of creating the ideal…

The Piedmont Middle School dress code has become a very controversial topic for both the students and faculty. The dress code states that shorts/skirts must be past the fingertips, and shirt sleeves must be at least three fingers in width. While I can see why this code is enforced, it is unfair for many students, and can interfere with student expression, different body types, and the student’s education.…

“When you put on a uniform, there are certain inhibitions that you accept”, said Dwight D. Eisenhower. School uniforms first entered the United States of America in 1994 with Long Beach, California adopting the idea (Portner, Jessica). These uniforms vary in what they look like (School Uniforms) and schools with school uniforms have had an increase in safety (Dress Codes) and school academics (School Uniforms and the Courts). School uniforms have many benefits that are helpful for their schools and their students.…
