This article dealt with the aspects of the new and rising epidemic to which is referred as “bath salts”, or methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV). The author shows an example of the effects of the drug by using set person, Mr. S, to show what happens to the average bath salt user. Mr. S is a fifty year old man who has had a prior substance abuse to methamphetamines and a history of violence resulting in incarcerations. After extensive tests, however; Mr. S did come up negative for HIV, gonorrhea, hepatitis, and chlamydia which would make one believe there is no necessary connection between disease and synthetic drug use/abuse. Mr. S’ case with synthetic drug abuse did, however; show a dependency for the substance. The case report tells how each of the three times Mr. S was discharged from his psychiatric holds/evaluations that he would relapse and continue the use of the drug. The discussion after the case study tells how there are three ways to partake in the use of these bath salts (inhalation, injection, and ingestion). At the end of the discussion it repeats how the substance is legal and how there is still many things unknown about it.…

The Genre: You’re familiar with the book and movie reviews that appear in newspapers, magazines, and websites. They are just one kind of evaluative writing, but from them we can identify the key components of the genre. First, there is the object to be evaluated. Often this is a single thing—a music CD, a scholarly study, a corporation—but it can also be an idea or process: the impact of a particular band on rock history, the importance of a new trend in scholarly opinion, or the management practices used by a particular sector of industry. Second, there are the criteria…

Ever since AZ SB1062 bill came into play, the media has taking a stand to cover everything from the pros and cons that similar bills like this will produce if it passes or does not pass. Many wonder why this bill has gotten too much national attention. AZ SB1062 was an Arizona bill designed to amend an existing law to give any individual or legal entity an exemption from any state law that limited or prohibited their freedom to practice their religion. If the law passed, it could mean that in the state of Arizona, individuals are essentially allowed to deny service to anyone for any reason including gays as long as they can justify that it is required by their religion to discriminate. Imagine a gay couple went to Walmart to buy a gallon of milk, the owner sees the gay couple and decides that they are not allowed to enter the store just because he or she is religious and according to his or her religion, he or she is not to serve the gay couple. If this, or similar bills like SB1062 do manage to pass, individuals or business owners would have every legal right to do that. However America is all about freedom, which is why I believe bills relating to SB1062 should not pass in order to protect individual’s right to…

On to a more complicated matter: layoffs. As a little girl I remember wondering why my father had to be laid off and I did not think it fair at all. However, as I matured I understood that businesses function much like households in that they have a budget just like my family did. Because of America’s current unhealthy economy even few layoffs have a negative ripple affect on businesses and our government. For example,…
