Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac. And the thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight because of his son. And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman, in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.” (Genesis 21:9-12 KJV) Preachers, lay members, altar workers, etc…if you ever want to be free, it will cost you. It was either him or God. I chose God. It wasn’t easy; but I came to the realization that I loved God more than a 5-minute thrill. I loved God more than what any man could offer me. I loved God more than my own plans and agenda. When Abraham heard God’s voice to cast of the bondwoman and her son, the bible says that the very next day, Abraham prepared food and water for Hagar and Ishmael and sent them on their way. Preachers of the gospel, whatever you have in your life that is not in line with where God is taking you, I urge you to pack it up and send it away! Cast out the bondwoman in your life so that you can enjoy what God has promised

Scripture has so many fulfilling riches that are missed because preachers fail to spend time in the scriptures, but the scripture alone is a wonderful place to begin to seek sermonic ideas. One of the biggest down falls of preachers is that they don’t spend enough time in the scripture. It is hard to say that preaching comes from the scripture, but the preachers don’t have a firm understanding of what is found in…

Sarah Sherman was the guest speaker this week who is a PT, DPT, ATC and SCS with Texas Health. She was a former competitive figure skater who became interested in PT through her own injuries and her infatuation with anatomy. She spoke about the care the SCCD dancers can receive; along with common injuries seen in dancer and prevention techniques. I was able to take away specific knowledge about my body as a dancer. I learned that some of the injuries that may arise are back pain, hip pain, sprained ankles, and stress fractures. I was also able to learn and understand that there is a difference between pain and muscle soreness, pain being sharp and sudden while soreness is duller and comes later.…

Although Rebekah is a major biblical figure later in Genesis, chapter 24 focuses on Abraham’s servant. This perspective shows how men are the figureheads in marital situations; Rebekah serves a more submissive role compared to Abraham’s servant, who is submissive to his master. Chapter 24 also allows readers to see a change in Rebekah’s character that occurs in chapter 27 when she creates the plan for Jacob to steal Esau’s blessing. Genesis 24 gives us more knowledge of the servant and Rebekah is obscured by…

Sarah’s mother sometimes can also be filled with an attitude and a temper. An example of that was at the grandmother funeral and the priest said something kind. Martha said “And does not first Peter say rid yourselves of hypocrisy, envy, and slauder lest it bring it ruin the defiler?” (Chapter 3 p. 42). I feel like she had an attitude with him and she tried to test the priest to see if he really knows is faith. Also I think that she was also angry with God to take the grandmother away from their family. You can’t blame Martha for being sad because aren’t we all sad when somebody that we love passes.…

The book “The Secret of Sarah Revere” is very entertaining and action-filled. I like the fact that the setting is during the American Revolution because that is what gives it the action. I also like that it is told from Sarah Revere’s point of view because you get to know things that you wouldn’t know if it was told by someone else. The arguments that Sarah and Doctor Warren have are also what makes the book very interesting to read. The only thing that I don’t like about the book is that the Grandmother is not very involved anymore. In the beginning of the story she was on of my favorite characters, but you don’t really hear from her…

These status’ are not within the normal social hierarchy. These preachers are seen as having a spiritual presence within them and are supposed to be a direct link from God to their followers. Preachers have even become so devoted to thinking they inhabit the spiritual presence of God that people are forbidden to even touch them. Sometimes these preachers will even come out on throws that are holden up by other men so they will not be touched even entering these sermons. This style of preaching has become widely incorporated as the one of the main practices by most Prosperity Gospel pastors. Many of these preachers have become this way because Televangelism has grown very quickly in the modern era and so many followers within the black community have bought into the hype of these “direct messengers of God”. The pastors of these Mega Churches invite all to tithe and spread the ideals of individualism in an overall plan to benefit for their own prosperity. Becoming extremely wealthy and known on a global scale are the prime examples as to why the followers of Prosperity Gospel strive so hard to be blessed by God through the ways of this gospel. However, what many do not know is that these preachers did not “tithe” to be blessed with such fortunes or have complete faith in God to be awarded these extremities. Men of this financial stature within Mega Churches come to be this way by simply…

Hagar refers to the maid servant of Sarai, wife of Abraham. According to the bible, since they were both getting old and having no children, Sarai let Abraham have relations with her maid so that something could happen to make a baby between them. Once Hagar in the bible became pregnant, she was left out and abandoned, in the result of changing her personality to be cocky towards Sarai. She, after a while, returned to Abraham and gave birth to his first son, Ishmael. Sarai also got pregnant and gave birth to Isaac. While teenagers, Sarai caught Ishmael making fun of Isaac and threw both Hagar and Isaac out. Fortunately, God provided protected from their death. The racial parallel in Morrison’s book happens with this. Her, Hagar, status is low. Abraham’s, which could be referred to Milkman, status is high. Thus, it seems to be right for the higher status to stop “using” the lower status when it is not useful anymore. This is sort of situation is in part in a society where racism commonly happens. Both “Hagars” are victims of this social trend. One slightly different point between them is that Hagar’s situation in Toni Morrison’s book, Song of Solomon, is harsher. After seeing Milkman with his arms around another woman, Hagar goes into a depression. This goes to the quotation, “Look at how I look. I look awful. No wonder he didn’t want me. I look terrible.”…

The main ethical problem facing Abraham is his willingness to kill his son, Isaac. This problem results from the lack of insight about Abrahams emotions. Kierkegaard addresses this problem by comparing him to a tragic hero and a murderer. Although he does not fit either category completely, his actions fall into both categories. According to Kierkegaard a tragic hero “gives up the certain for still more certain and the eye of the beholder rests upon him confidently.” Unlike the tragic hero, Abraham has no idea what is going to happen once he gives up his son. Maybe his actions were out of fear of what wouldn’t happen. Ultimately, whatever he chose to do the reaction would be uncertain. No one knows what God is thinking or planning. Abrahams…
