Saint Kateri Tekakwitha
Throughout history saints have been greatly recognized and honored for their pious devotion to God. This degree of religious devotion can often take a great deal of years. However, Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, being as devout as she was, exhibited this to a very high degree in very little time. Often to a very high degree, she chose to willingly suffer and readily desired to perform penances. I believe this degree of devotion is what ultimately led to her canonization into

    St John the Divine

The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine is simply breathtaking. From the exterior to the interior of the cathedral, you can find plentiful amounts of highly sophisticated bodies of work. Before laying a foot inside, the massive bronze doors containing forty-eight relief panels depicting scenes from the Old and New Testament catches the eyes of many. Also, many note the exquisite statues and carvings of saints and Jesus all along the Western Front of the Cathedral. Once inside, the enormous pilier-cantonnés stand along the nave aisle, where it erects up into the ceiling. Eventually, the columns meet with one another at four angles, creating a quadripartite vault in the nave ceiling. The stained glass windows that lines the entire cathedral strikes your retina at all different angles as you rotate your body. A little beyond the crossing, the high altar contains a magnificent cross, as well as an iron tomb of the man who founded the cathedral. If you focus the eyes just behind the choir, you will glare at seven stunning radial chapels—each one representing an apostle, a patron, or immigrant. But out of all the marvelous artwork within and outside the chapel, there was one particular window that caught my attention.…

Canonization is the process in which the pope declares a deceased constituent of the faithful is projected as a model and intercessor to the Christian principles and recognized as a saint due to living their life in a heroic manner or becoming a martyr because of their continued faith to God (Molinari & O’Donnell, 2000). This persons name is then inducted into the canon of saints, citing those who are to be given veneration universally into the church. Canonization is an earthly decision, meaning it honors them as a saint on earth, not their entry into heaven (Bunson, M., Bunson S., & Bunson, M., 1998).…

In the winter of 1977, a tragedy was painfully and painstakingly unfurled in the Monroe County, New York courtroom of Judge Hyman Maas. Eleven months earlier, on April 27, 1976, a Roman Catholic nun and school teacher, Sister Maureen Murphy, surreptitiously gave birth to a baby boy at the Our Lady of Lourdes parish convent in Brighton, just outside Rochester. It was alleged that she then shoved a pair of panties into the infant’s mouth, asphyxiating him, and left his remains in a wastebasket.…

What is snowboarding to me? "I would not even call snowboarding a sport. It is a way of life. It is a chance to shut your brain off and live in the moment." Travis Rice could not have said it any better. Snowboarding has become a part of who I am and has had many influences on my life. The sport of snowboarding (if Travis Rice say it is not a sport and you believe you are in sense contradicting yourself by calling it a sport) has taught me very valuable skill such as: (dont put such as or : i think it would be better to put "like") Persistence, Hard work, Courage and Dedication (you don't have to capitalize them). I was taught to be persistent when learning new tricks. From personal experience, when learning ("when learning" makes it a bit awkward. You also repeated it twice) a new trick I experienced many failures and countless tries (countless tries does not make sense. Maybe you are trying to say, you tried many times) but snowboarding taught me to stick with it (stick with it is too informal. Try persistent) because the taste of victory and achievement is incomparable (incomparable to what?) . The sport also taught me about the value of courage and being able to take risks. ( and "risk talking") From watching other people accel (not a word. If you mean accelerate it might be better to put that), I learned that I need to really push myself if I want to be at the top of the charts (doesn't make sense. try "be the best", "make it to the top"). Almost every time that I ride I scare the living daylights out of myself. This is not a bad thing though because it teaches me to push my ("come out of my") comfort zone and reap the rewards. Snowboarding also taught me dedication because if (once) you love something enough and would like to be good at it, then you need to be dedicated. All the time that I spend thinking about (thinking about what?) and actually riding my snowboard show my extreme dedication and it really does pay off. Snowboarding to me is a way that I live…

    St. John Vianney

St. John Vianney original name is Jean-Baptiste-Marie Vianney. He was born May 8, 1786 in the French town of Dardilly, and was baptized the same day. His parents are Matthieu Vianney and Marie Beluze. They had six children ,of whom John was the fourth. His family were devout Catholics. They helped the poor and gave hospitality to St. Benedict Joseph Labre (he was passing through Dardilly on his pilgrimage to Rome). In 1790, during the French Revolution, it was illegal to attend mass so his family had to travel to farms far away to pray in secret. During this time priest would risk their lives, so John Vianney looked up to them as heroes. His First Holy Communion lessons were carried out in a public home by three priests. He continued this catholic practice until his conformation. He was 20 when his father allowed him to leave the farm to be taught at a "presbytery-school". The school taught arithmetic, history, geography, and Latin. In 1809, he was drafted into Napoleon's armies. Two days after he had to report at Lyons, he became ill and was hospitalized, during which time his draft left without him. Once released from the hospital he was sent to Roanne for another draft. He went into a church to pray, and fell behind the group. He met a young man who volunteered to guide him back to his group, but instead led him deep into the mountains of Le Forez, to the village of Les Noes, were deserters had gathered. An imperial decree proclaimed in March 1810 granted amnesty to all deserters, which enabled Vianney to go back legally to Ecully, where he resumed his studies. He was tonsured in 1811, and in 1812 he went to the minor seminary at Verrières-en-Forez. In autumn of 1813, he was sent to major seminary at Lyons. Considered too slow, he was returned to Abbe Balley. However, Balley persuaded the Vicars General that Vianney's piety was great enough to compensate for his ignorance, and the seminarian…

Kali is one of the most well-known and worshipped Hindu Goddesses to this day. Kali is known as The Dark Mother and her bond with children is a relationship one would consider very unique. When it comes to children she forms a very intimate bond. Many people think of Kali as a destroyer but she destroys things only to recreate them again such as sin. It is believed that she goes into the darkness with us, and for us, to swallow our sins, worries and concerns. The Goddess of Kali has many different names. The name Kali is derived from the Hindu word that means "time” and that also means "black". Kali means darkness but she takes away the darkness. Kali also means she who is beyond time. Kali also means Mother Nature and Energy of Wisdom. She is a manifestation of the Divine Mother, which represents the female principle and that is why a lot of women respect Kali more than men usually do.…

Before all else, as a philosopher Karol Wojtyla is interested in man as a dynamic subject, who is able to fulfill himself by fulfilling acts which correspond to him as a person with regard to their contents and the manner in which they are realized. Thus, we can say that Karol Wojtyla's field of study is philosophical anthropology and ethics.…
