Sacrifice In Joseph Conrad's Heart Of Darkness '
She heaves a deep exhale and closes her eyes. "On your father's tenth birthday, the mansion was burned down and his parents were killed." She begins. "Ciel was kidnapped by noblemen who were trying to summon the devil. They claimed Ciel as their sacrifice and branded him like a cow to show that Ciel is their property."

The children gasp.

"The noblemen succeeded in summoning the demon, but instead of forming contracts with them, the demon formed with one with Ciel. In exchange for his soul, Ciel ordered the demon to help him get revenge on the ones that have wronged his family and mistreated him. This is how Sebastian come about." Elizabeth explains.

"I received a letter a couple of days after Ciel's soul was collected. It was written by him the night before his death. He told me that he is ordering Sebastian to destroy all evidence of him being affiliated with demons and the evil noblemen that kidnapped him, which is why Ciel's contracted eye was missing as well

"The question is what will you three do now?" Undertaker speaks behind Elizabeth.

"What do you mean?" Louis inquires.

"Will you three accept this information and go about your lives peacefully or will you become angry, grow with sick the need of revenge to kill the demon who took your beloved papa and contract a demon?" Undertaker grins.

Elizabeth splutters, "Be quiet! How dare you put such thoughts in their heads! After all I have been through!" She blusters while trying to hit the reaper, which were dodged effortlessly.

Abigail looks to her siblings with fright. "I…" she stutters.

Elliot bites his lip. "Should we?" He asks

"While I understand my father's grief and hurt, I do not see the point in revenge and continuing a vicious cycle." He says firmly before adding, "I do, however, want to continue his legacy. I want to become an Earl and work for the

“Ughhh” Randy said as he hit the button sluggishly on his alarm clock. He sat up on his nice warm bed and thought to himself about how just a year ago, he was sleeping on the bleak, bitter ground. He thought about Austin one of his best friends. He remembered all the parties they went to, all the sly things they did, all the criminal things they did just to have fun. Randy remembered the party they threw at the old dilapidated warehouse for Randy’s last birthday. Randy was turning thirteen that day and he was on the streets. Randy ran away from home because of his abusive father who was an alcoholic. The thought that always popped into his mind was how he cut his dad with a broken beer bottle during…

So (the irony of my word choice does not fall short on me), you say I am gluttonous. Such foolishness! How senseless! This notion is beginning to aggravate me. If I were truly greedy, wouldn’t I have killed and eaten your majesty, King Hrothgar, by now? And his bed-mate, Wealtheow? I would have gorged myself on the flesh of their royal bones, watching blood spatter against the walls, rejoicing at the sight of such important figures being reduced to meals on a platter. If I were truly greedy, would I have spared them? Killing everyone would lead to my demise. I would no longer be Grendel the Beast; I would roam the streets alone, with no one to laugh at, plague, or humiliate. I especially will not kill Unferth, the coward, as I will not be his…

In Neil Bissoondath’s “I’m Not Racist But…” the narrator intends to bring awareness to his readers on the connection between stereotyping and racism and condemns such acts against one another, while in Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness, the protagonist informs his audience on the consequences of African colonization. Bissoondath’s work is oriented to educate the reader in the different types of racial acts leading to hatred, abuse or enforcement of power toward any given group of people. My view on “The Heart of Darkness” automatically came to me as a racial story, which encourages racism. The wording used in the story such as, light and dark made it seem like Joseph Conrad was referring to people of darker skin color as “monstrous” and “inhuman”. “The earth seemed unearthly. We are accustomed to look upon the shackled form of a conquered monster, but there – there you could look at a thing monstrous and free. It was unearthly, and the men were – No, they were not inhuman. Well, you know, that was the worst of it – this suspicion of their not being inhuman.” (Pg.13). Throughout the reading the main character Marlow says how they would go to places where Africans were fee and it seemed “unearthly” to them. This quote shows how people of a darker skin color were discriminated against and were considered a lower class of people. Usually an author will incorporate certain things into their writing to make a point that people are constantly overlooking the racism, power, femininity, identity, madness, and even fate. This does in fact alter the way a person thinks and views the world.…

Who are you? No, really, have you ever considered that question? Identity is the collection of attributes that defines how we see ourselves. In this big world, each individual is like a grain of sand on a beach; none of them are any more significant than another. At the same time, there are the occasional grains, which are larger than the rest, the ones with greater influence than the others. In essence, Emerson’s words are as true as when he spoke them. In Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis, and Albert Camus’ The Stranger, there is a significant theme of lost identity. Although the three novels are different, they establish the unsettling existence of the characters.…
