My Movie Review of The Notebook

In search of the perfect romance movie that would satisfy the hopeless romantic inside me I stumbled upon Nick Cassvetes' "The Notebook" in 2004. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks one of my favorite authors. The movie follows a passionate but poor young man Noah, played by Ryan Gosling, as he falls head over heels in love with a rich young woman, Allie, played by Rachel McAdams. As it switches between the present day and flashbacks from the 1940's Allie and Noah's love story unfolds full of twists, turns, and obstacles the young couple go through before being reunited in the end. The Notebook uses its chemistry between the cast-mates, the idea that true love always finds a way to prevail along with beautiful cinematography to become a true romance movie you'll never forget. One very important ingredient in a romantic drama is the chemistry between the leading lady and leading man. There is a special way in which McAdams brings her character Allie, the well known rich girl, to life while Gosling embraces his character of Noah, the poor but hard working southern gentleman, with ease. Together their chemistry convinces the audience they are watching two star crossed lovers fighting all obstacles to reach their happy ending. As Thomson states (2004) "It's hard not to like these two or begrudge them a great love together". That instant spark that is seen on screen between McAdams and Gosling makes you want to stand up and cheer for their love until the very end. The concept of finding true love and going on to live a long blissful life with that one special person is not a foreign one especially in the business of cinema.

For a romantic movie to be as amazing as this one, the two main role need to have chemistry between them. The two leads in this particular movie do have chemisty between them. There is a scene in the movie where Luke was teaching Sophia how to ride, this scene really exebited the chemisty between the two. Personaly, my favorite charator in this movie is Luke Collins (see figure3). Scott Eastwood plays Luke in the movie and he does a fantastic job of doing so. Scott has the “physicality to do the bull riding and the physicality to work on a farm, but to also have the charm” (Lamoureux). Do not get me wrong I do love the actress that plays the role of Sophia. Britt Roberson as Sophia does a amazing job of protraying a New Jersy girl, goal-orinted, and at the same time being very likeable. When the two characters are put together the chemistry is created and it is…

The last of the Mohicans was a movie that really appealed to me from the beginning because of the heroism and the action into it. The main characters in this movie were Daniel day- Lewis as Nathanial Poe (Hawkeye) and Madeline Stowe as Cora Munro. The movie could be described as a romantic action like a Spiderman or a superman movie always needs the girl to give motivation to the main character but it is a historical drama.…

I do believe this movie was mainly directed for women. One reason why I believe this is because women tend to love a good love story or “chick flicks”; I personally do. In the trailer it shows several doves flying and in the background there is soft music playing. Those are key clues that there is romance in the movie. Women are claimed to generally be more sensitive than men. So when women see a romance story unfolding in a movie trailer, they are typically more drawn to it rather than men. Women can be drawn to the movie as well if they can relate to what is happening in the story. After watching the trailer it appears as if there is a girl lead who is in love. With a girl being a lead it automatically makes it relatable to other girls. It can also be relatable if any girl is or has been in love. In the trailer is seems as if there is a male lead as well. Typically in a romance movie the male lead is attractive. Girls go watch movies all the time just to watch a cute boy actor. The girl who appears to be the lead in the movie is Rachel McAdams. Rachel starred in the movie Mean Girls which premiered just…

I know most guys don’t like love stories or “girly movies” but I know a lot of guys who love this movie. Everything in the movie just connects with the person and it makes you think to yourself, “would I do that?” or “what if I had someone who loved me like that?” The Notebook goes into when they meet again after seven years and how their love just rekindles itself because it was so strong. It continues through the end when Noah reads to Allie everyday at the retirement home and Allie has Alzheimer's so he tries to use the story of their life that Allie wrote to get her to remember. Through it all, in the end, she starts to remember and they fall asleep together and pass in each others’ arms. The parts in the movie when it transitions back to when they’re older in the retirement home, it really made me think of my grandparents. My grandfather died about ten years ago but when I was little I remember how close they were, how they always held hands and danced together in public. They had been together since my grandmother was 16 and in the movie Noah and Allie met when they were about 18. Many people would be able to relate to this just by having grandparents and seeing them…

“I should have fought, for you. 'Cause you fight for your soul mates.” –Cal Weaver. This story is characterized by fighting for the person you love and passing through all obstacles no matter what happens. It was written by Dan Fogelman, starred by Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, and / Emma Stone, and released on 2011. This movie is my favorite because it combines love, cheating, crazy experiences, and definitely fun. All the actors get completely involved in their characters and make the story feel so real and interesting. It is a story that makes the spectators remain sitting down / while watching it and amazes everyone with a not-expected final.…

Easily the most anticipated movie of the year and perhaps even the team superhero movie of all time, “The Avengers”, directed by Joss Whedon and starring big names like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson, is a movie adaptation of the Marvel comic book of the same title. Not only is it an action-packed spectacular you would expect from a butt-kicking superhero film, but it also integrates the element of comedy quite smoothly. This 2 ½ hour film is one you’d gladly watch over and over again and—pun fully intended—marvel each time.…

Love Actually is the ultimate romantic comedy written and directed by Richard Curtis. This film consist of dozens of different love stories that like a quilt are weaved together to make one story about love. It is about love in its many forms: love between family members, love between husbands and wives, innocent love, undeclared love, and romantic love. The cast has mostly British actors with famous people like Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Kiera Knightley, Alan Rickman, Billy Nighy, Liam Neeson, and Rowan Atkinson. This wonderful movie, with its talented cast, has many great things about it, but like all things, it can be analyzed and criticized deeply. The most important aspect of critical discourse analysis is that we must not accept things just as they are, but consider issues of race, ethnicity, gender, social class status, sexuality preference, religions aspects, and language. Using Huckin's article "Critical Discourse Analysis" and Giroux's article "Politics and Innocence in the Wonderful World of Disney" as guidance I will apply their main concepts to Love Actually to really review and analyze the film.…
