Roommate Mediation: Why College Students Need To Switch Rooms

Students are wanting to switch rooms within the first three weeks of school because of problems with their roommates. This problem impacts others and me because people are constantly switching rooms, the fighting is getting out of hand, and there are not enough rooms available for everyone to be able to switch rooms. Some people are also dropping out because they do not like their roommate and nothing is being done to help with the conflicts. They said if something would have been done about the conflicts with their roommate then they would have not dropped out. Currently, the people who want to switch rooms are just going to the person in charge of their residence hall and asking if they can switch rooms. They are asked why they want to switch
This is not fair because some people who just do not like their roommates are able to switch rooms and others that actually get into fights with their roommates are not always able to switch rooms. To fix this problem, I would use the conflict resolution system of mediation. I would use mediation because the roommates would be able to talk their problems out and see if they can come to an agreement without them having to switch rooms. This process I would call Roommate Mediation and this process would work by when one of the roommates is having a problem with the other one they would go to their RA on their floor. The RA would then ask both people if they are willing to attend a mediation session. If they both agree to mediation, then the RA would ask them when it would be an appropriate time for them to meet. The mediation would take place in the study rooms which there is one on each floor of the residence hall. I think this would be a good place for the mediation process to take place because the rooms are quiet, the roommates would feel safe, and there is plenty of
