Juliet is a sweet, young girl who is beginning to learn the meaning of “love”. Juliet is in love with Romeo, who is part of a family, the Montagues, that Juliet’s family, the Capulets, despise. When Juliet first meets Romeo, she requests her servant and friend, Nurse, to ask for his name. Nurse finds out, and says that he is “the only sone of your great enemy” (1.5.151). To this, Juliet speaks, saying that her “only love sprung from {her} only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late! Prodigious birth of love it is to {her}. That {she} must love a loathed enemy” (1.5.152-155). To show her brawling emotions of love and hate, I put a split heart, with one side showing love, and the other showing hate.     Wisely and slow, they stumble that run fast” (Shakespeare 2.3.99). This quote by Friar Lawrence in William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, perfectly sums up two different types of relationships. One of which is represented by Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, who run fast into their love even though their families have a seemingly unending feud. They attempt to keep their relationship secret, which causes complications and ultimately ends in their death that barriers their families feud. A similar, but slower, relationship, which is the second type, is formed as a friendship between Lennie and George, in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, who are ranch hands that end up working on a farm in the Salinas Valley. They spend the majority of their lives together, George, small and smart, and Lennie, bigger but less intelligent, until trouble with a man on the ranch named Curley and his wife leads to George killing Lennie. When the two texts are compared, George and Lennie have a stronger relationship, because they always care for each other, they have trust, and their relationship is based off of friendship, while on the other hand Romeo and Juliet’s relationship is developed off of regretted actions, infatuation, and empty words.…

    The central idea of act one, scene five of Romeo and Juliet is that things change. One example of that would be when Tybalt is complaining about Romeo being at the party. Instead of kicking Romeo out, Lord Capulet allows him to stay. By allowing him to stay, the audience can see a dynamic shift in the hatred between Capulet’s and Montague’s. A prime example, probably one of the most important, is when Juliet says, “That I must love a loathed enemy” (Shakespeare 1.5.155).
