Romeo and Juliet: Final Project
Romeo and Juliet Final Project “Oh, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night
Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope’s ear,
Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear.
So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows
As yonder lady o'er her fellows shows.
The measure done, I’ll watch her place of stand,
And, touching hers, make blessèd my rude hand.
Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight!
For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night.”

This is the speech romeo says when he sees Juliet for the first time. Basically it talks about how Romeo thinks Juliet is the most beautiful girl he has ever laid his eyes on. For my final project I chose to stencil in the speech on a big piece of paper and drew the symbols then colored them in with colored pencils. I drew 6 symbols that all stand for something different. The first symbol on my project is a torch. This is because the first line is “Oh, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!”. Next, I drew a moon and stars because Romeo says that Juliet stands out in the darkness just as a jewel on an Africans ear would, which is also why i drew an ear with a jewel earring hanging from it. “So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows” basically says that Juliet is the white beautiful dove that stands out amongst the black ugly crows, therefore i drew a white dove representing Juliet and her beauty. When romeo says “And, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand.” he means that after the dance is over, he is going to go hold her beautiful hand with his ugly one. I made one hand’s nails blue because that is the color of the Montagues and I made the other set of nails because that is the color of the Capulets. Lastly, I drew a heart because that is the way our society now likes to represent love, and the whole story of Romeo and Juliet is about

Throughout Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare shows many examples of the main theme, forbidden love. In this story two feuding families, the Montagues and Capulets, each have a child who falls in love with the other. The young Juliet Capulet and Romeo Montague meet and fall in love at first sight. They know they cannot be together because of their names, and that is how the main theme, forbidden love, comes about.…

Jonn Pettie’s painting “Friar Lawrence and Juliet” portrays the scene in which Juliet cries about Romeo’s death. The dark colors in the background convey a sad, heavy mood and symbolizes the darkness that overwhelms Juliet. The stone walls in the background represent how hard Romeo’s death is for Juliet. Juliet cries on Friar Lawrence’s shoulder and is dressed in white, which might represent her innocence, but also the marriage that did not happen. Friar Lawrence has his arms crossed and is looking down, which can show his unconformity toward the situation and also his feelings of guilt and remorse. The picture is faithful to the scene, capturing its sad…

Contemporary, upbeat, pop music is playing as the audience is seated, before a visual montage of images such as explosions, various iconic couples, hearts and ‘make love not war’ quotes is shown. These two things set the tone of the entire play and foreshadow the themes of love and hate. Music and visuals continue to work together throughout the performance to create the tone of each scene such as after Juliet meets Romeo, she is found in her bedroom with images of roses and a feminine song playing softly to represent the romantic mood. Additionally, stars are always shown whenever Romeo and Juliet are together, symbolising that they are eternally star-crossed since, after their death scene, stars continued to be shown. The actors also portrayed the performance humorously, giving it a comedic tone, such as how a male personated the maid, wore an amusing costume, and altered his voice and movements to entertain the audience. Thus, the element of mood has been effectively applied throughout the play, helping the performance to…

Throughout the play there were many deaths which perhaps show the extent of the battle. I used a sword to represent violence and the fighting in Romeo and Juliet. The red on the end of the sword is to represent the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. On the contrary I used yellow, a light colour on the sword to show that after Romeo and Juliet died the two families came together and stopped fighting. This is linked to the quote “Doth with their death, bury their parents strife” So even something as sad as the deaths of Romeo and Juliet happened represented by the red, something good came out of it as the families came…

According to Duff Brenna, “All literature shows us the power of emotion. It is emotion, not reason, which motivates characters in literature.” This is demonstrated in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and Of Mice and Men. Human beings are often driven by their emotions or passions. Sometimes their actions defy sound reason or judgment. However, due to the emotions that the individuals might be experiencing at that time, their initial response is usually impulsive. I agree Duff Brenna in her assessment of how characters in literature are motivated by their raging emotions and not by reason, common sense or wisdom. One cannot merely act upon how they feel, especially if those emotions are negatives. Negatives emotions, if acted upon, will lead to negative actions; whereas positive emotions will leads to positive actions.…

Over time, the red rose has developed to become a symbol of love. It is common for people to give them to their loved ones as a token for their affection. A rose communicates that love, much like its appearance is beautiful and delicate. One similar aspect of love is also displayed in its red shades, a color of passion. However, many forget of a rose’s thorns, sharp and painful to the touch. The rose is similar to the love expressed in Romeo and Juliet, a play written by William Shakespeare. The story follows a pair of star-crossed lovers who must deal with the various aspects of love. For Romeo, love produces feelings of pain, joy, and impulsiveness.…

Firstly, it is evident that the characters of Romeo and Juliet are present in both interpretations, the visual text and book, which may have been the result of the artist’s reference to the book while depicting his thoughts. This theory can be supported by the fact that the book was published in the late sixteenth century, while the painting was completed much more recently; hence it is only possible that the artist gained inspiration and ideas from another variation of Romeo and Juliet and not the other way around. Another character present in both interpretations is the Nurse, Juliet’s confidante, who is seen peeking into the room when Romeo and Juliet are together in the painting. The two people present in the room near the bed in the painting are clearly Romeo and Juliet as they appear to be deeply in love, their affection and intimacy towards each other indiscreetly shown.…

The Capulet house shape like a huge Indian tent with a balcony, which looked like a bathing tub with fresh spring water with red roses and shining apples. The color blue of house reflected on Juliet's gorgeous eyes. The texture of the house showed me likes and dislikes of the Capulet' because it had angels with bow and arrows striking at a broken heart. The windows tinted with green little cubes looked like eyes that were watching me and telling me don't dare touch my daughter. But I tried to concentrate on the beauty of Juliet and the rhyming of her words describing how she felt about…
