Romeo and Juliet: Final Project
Romeo and Juliet Final Project “Oh, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night
Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope’s ear,
Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear.

As yonder lady o'er her fellows shows.

This is the speech romeo says when he sees Juliet for the first time. Basically it talks about how Romeo thinks Juliet is the most beautiful girl he has ever laid his eyes on. For my final project I chose to stencil in the speech on a big piece of paper and drew the symbols then colored them in with colored pencils. I drew 6 symbols that all stand for something different. The first symbol on my project is a torch. This is because the first line is “Oh, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!”. Next, I drew a moon and stars because Romeo says that Juliet stands out in the darkness just as a jewel on an Africans ear would, which is also why i drew an ear with a jewel earring hanging from it. “So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows” basically says that Juliet is the white beautiful dove that stands out amongst the black ugly crows, therefore i drew a white dove representing Juliet and her beauty. When romeo says “And, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand.” he means that after the dance is over, he is going to go hold her beautiful hand with his ugly one. I made one hand’s nails blue because that is the color of the Montagues and I made the other set of nails because that is the color of the Capulets. Lastly, I drew a heart because that is the way our society now likes to represent love, and the whole story of Romeo and Juliet is about
