Rikki-Ripson Theme Essay

The theme is the moral or life-lesson we learn from a short story. Rudyard Kipling, the author of “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi,” made it obvious that the theme of this story is “greed can lead to negative consequences.” I can support this with loads of evidence. For example, the cobras were greedy, evil, and cruel, and they were punished. On the other hand, Rikki was selfless, content, and courageous, and he was rewarded. Notably, some people think “knowledge can help us prepare for the future” is the theme, but this is not true. I know I have hit the nail on the head with this story’s theme. My first piece of evidence I have to support my theme is the characters that are greedy had an unfortunate ending, such as Karait, Nag, and Nagaina. In the rising action, Karait, a minor character, wanted to kill Teddy, but he was killed. One significant thing most people don’t notice about this is that Karait was there when Nag and Nagaina ambushed Rikki and failed, so he may have wanted to kill him before they did. This specific action shows he has a great deal of greed and could be why he was the first to be punished. Like any story, my theme connects to real life. This theme is connected by showing that people who are selfless, content, and courageous are good people that are rewarded for their actions with a prize or just a feeling of doing what is right. In order to advance in life, you have to be a good person. When people are greedy, evil, and cruel, they are punished for their wrong doings. The people who are evil receive consequences for their actions. In life, you don’t have to go out of your way to be good, but the people who go out of their way to be evil don't get anywhere, as shown in this
