Right To Lead Model Analysis
The most important concept I found in module six was the “Right to Lead Model” and “The Five Essential Qualities for Followership”. These were important to me because I want to become more effective as a leader and follower. By utilizing these concepts, I can find my weaknesses in each area and increase my effectiveness.
The “Right to Lead Model” is important because it provides the ability to evaluate my leadership ability to improve my weak areas. The process starts with identifying my authorities, by defining my assigned positions and social roles. Next, it reflects on obligations and requirements such as deadlines, meetings, operating instructions or industrial standards that I have to follow. Then I must reflect on my competence, character and personality through self-evaluation and by seeking feedback. Finally, I consider my relevance by determining how my actions impact my environment. With all this information I can find the trust that my followers have in me. Completing the “Right to Lead Model”, I uncovered weaknesses

Self-management will assist in defining my goals and determine the roles I fit into within teams. I will stay committed to completing the mission by completing all tasks, and show my competence by improving existing skills. My weakness in “The Five Essential Qualities for Followership” is my integrity. I lack integrity at times because I take shortcuts and skip steps in directions. By correcting my integrity to follow directions, they will confide in me for accurate advice and never doubt that I can complete the

Leadership can be defined as a function of knowing yourself, having a vision that is well communicated, building trust among colleagues, and taking effective action to realize your own leadership potential. All leaders essentially strive to complete the same tasks: provide direction, set goals, make a vision, build a positive environment, instill values, motivate, resolve conflict, and teach. James Kouzes and Barry Posner (2002) developed a survey that asked people which characteristics of leaders they look for, admire and would willingly follow. The results of the study showed that people preferred the following characteristics: honest,…

However, one thinks that leading is the most important role in management. As a good leader one will inspire others to do their best in order to accomplish ones objectives. One must motivate employee interest, communicate well, provide adequate training and use power effectively to get them to work hard to attain ones goal. According to Schyve, M.D. (2009), poor communication, inadequate training, and lack of procedural compliance—often can be traced back to the failure of leadership to institute systemic solutions to ensure safety. Also, for effective leadership one must first understand employee’s values, emotions, attitudes, and personalities. “Through leading, managers build commitments, encourage activities that support goals, and influence others to do their best work on the organization’s behalf (Lombardi & Schermerhorn, 2007).” Without good leadership, all other functions seem to fall apart.…

The concept that I found most important in Module 5 was the trust element of the Right to Lead Assessment Model. The main reason I find this concept to be crucial to how to lead people is simple, without trust, leadership does not exist. If your people do not trust you, how can they be expected to stand by your decisions? For example, when I was a Senior Airman at my last duty station, my supervisor would always get outraged with me when I corrected him on certain job specific tasks that he was doing incorrectly. This made me less likely to approach him. It also made me worry that he was inefficient in some of the new tasks that he was training me to do. I was apprehensive about taking advice from him which caused me to progress slowly…

Based on what I learned from this module, the concept that is most important to me is Individualized Consideration from Transformational Leadership. According to the lesson principles, individualized consideration is the degree to which a leader attends to each follower's needs, acts as a mentor or coach to the follower, and listens to the follower's concerns. When applying individualized behaviors it is essential to actively participate in discussing and empathizing with the needs of the follower. It is necessary to provide individual support to my team members, peers, and subordinates appropriately and as often as possible.…
