A famously known asteroid named 52 Europa is the 6th largest known asteroid in the asteroid belt (the asteroid belt is the circumstellar disc in the Solar System which is located roughly between the orbits of the planets Mars and Jupiter. Lots of asteroids or minor planets i.e. Pluto occupy the asteroid belt) with a large diameter of 315 km. It was discovered by Hermann Goldschmidt in February 4th 1858 by using a telescope; he was in Paris at the time. Europa is named after one of Jupiter’s moon which is also called Europa. 52 Europa continues to orbit.
