Research Paper Mexican Telenovela
Although the Mexican telenovela generates millions of dollars for networks in Miami, Florida, such as Univison and Telemundo, current communication research has overlooked the importance of understanding the Mexican telenovela’s effects on acculturation in the South Florida region (Correa, 2010; Johnson, 1996). More specifically, the role the Mexican telenovela plays in the acculturation of its largest target audience––Hispanic women. Mexican telenovelas are produced primarily in Spanish-speaking countries and are usually shown during prime time (Brown, 1992; Johnson, 1996). The Mexican telenovela runs for a predetermined duration and is usually shown five or six days a week and run for an average of 120 episodes (Brown, 1992; Johnson, 1996).

    Growing up and being raised far away from my country of birth, Mexico, I believe being Hispanic is not just a title I hold for being born in a Latin American country or that is based on how I look, how I dress, or how I act, but rather is keeping the history, my native language, the tradition and culture of my home country alive in me.
