Making ECSU Safer for Students Elizabeth City State University, located in Northeastern North Carolina, has been victim to a lot of violence in recent years. These crimes have put students’ lives at risk; in recent events, an unknown person came on campus and started shooting, and luckily that day no one got injured. Another incident happened in 1984 when a female student was beaten and hanged in her dorm room. These are some examples of crimes that have happened on the university campus. While away at college, a student or parent should not have to worry constantly about a college campus not being safe and the safety of their child. It is up to the school faculty and leaders to help provide a safe environment for the students. The school should enforce security, have surveillance cameras, and checkpoints for visitors who come on campus, in order to make Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) a safer school. Campus security is one of the most important units on the school ground because they are the main ones who are going to prevent crimes from happening or escalating Now, if the security on campus is not up to par, the school will have to worry about the wrong people getting onto campus, and will be able to prevent any unlawful activity on campus. So, in order for the college campus to maintain a safe environment there should be more security which means the school should hire more trained personnel. There should be standards given to campus police that they should abide by, and that is they should be serious about their job, physical fit, and know all their duties as a police officer. In order to have top security for the school you must first have the top police officers to work. ECSU security is not strong as it could be. On the school website under campus security it lists a lot of things the campus has done in order to make ECSU safer. Some of them were providing safety tips, Campus Authority

Langston Hughes' stories deal with and serve as a commentary of conditions of African Americans during the Harlem Renaissance. As Ostrom explains, "To a great degree, his stories speak for those who are voiceless, cheated, abused, or ignored because of race or class." (51). Hughes' stories speak of the unfortunate African-Americans neglected and overlooked by a prejudiced society. The recurring theme of how powerlessness leads to violence is personified by the actions of Sargeant in "On the Road", old man Oyster in "Gumption", and the robber in "Why, You Reckon?"…

College: an educational institution or establishment. The safety of educational institutions is what makes it possible for young minds to grow and develop as they prepare to enter into the “real” world. Ever since the massively publicized Columbine High School shooting occurred, it is evident that this safety, and more importantly, the opportunity for the younger generations to work toward a better future, is endangered. When discussing the heated topic of what is best for school safety, many advocate that college students and faculty with gun permits should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon on campus as a source of self-protection in case of emergencies; however, it is important to consider the danger that guns pose on the many lives…

When I was a senior at North Mesquite High School, I went through some wild moments with my football teammates. I party almost every weekend, with my football teammates. I asked my parents to let me barrow their truck to go see my girlfriend but really I needed the truck to go pick up my friends to go to the party. I always wanted to be the first person to be at the party I just wanted to party for the weekend. Parting was the thing for me to go wild when I was in high school. I told myself, “This is high school, try to make your senior year best out of it!” I started to get into trouble with the law, and had bad grades in some of my classes. My counselor called me out of class one day when I was in athletic. After have a short little meeting with my counselor, she told me that I wasn't going to graduate high school if I kept doing badly in my classes. I went home and told my mom what my counselor had told me. During this point of my life, my lovely mother taught me a treasured and powerful lesson of being responsible for my own acts. The first thing I needed for myself was to arrive at the party with drinks, and alcohol. I couldn't party without drinks I needed beer to get me savage for the night. The party was hosted by Willie at his dad’s ranch. The ranch had tall grass on the field, and an old house behind the wooden area. The old house was rusty, sitting side way, and the windows were broken too. Also there were some old school cars just parked in the woods getting all rusty, and old ranch tractors.…
