SOCIAL ANALYSIS GROUP REPORT

Value: 20%
Due: Week 11

Each group will be required to submit a social analysis research report. This is a group project and you will receive a group mark. It is strongly advised that you keep copies of your own contribution to the report, should there be any questions or issues that arise. I can only address your concerns if I can see the work that you did.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Introduction: Opening paragraph summarizing your topic and why it’s a social problem. 2. Research section: Minimum 1 page per person of research on your topic. 3. Social Analysis section: 2 to 3 pages per group, using Critical Thinking or Iceberg Model to analyze the problem. 4. Conclusion: Closing paragraph outlining solutions found in your research, and your own thoughts and ideas on what you could do about your problem. 5. All research must use proper footnotes and bibliographies. Failure to cite an outside source or idea that’s not your own will result in a grade of zero.

NOTE FOR THOSE WORKING ALONE: If you are doing this report by yourself, I will expect a minimum of 2 pages of research on your topic, as well as the 2 to 3 pages of social analysis.

Any historical context or root causes? • Who gains and who loses by keeping this social problem the way it is? • Use as many recent sources as you can find, from a broad range of experts. Don’t just rely on newspaper reports, or Wikipedia. • Use the appropriate terminology from the class to frame your ideas, like marginalization, equity, social justice, discrimination, dominant culture, values, etc.

REMEMBER TO ASK WHY. Why does this problem exist? Why did it ever become a social
