Renato Rosaldo Putting Culture In Motion Summary
Passing Judgment We are living in a society where people will pass judgment upon someone without getting to know them. In Renato Rosaldo’s Article “Putting Culture in Motion”, he starts off with a letter from a heterosexual woman, who has a lady friend who kisses her hello and goodbye. She is now think that the women might be a lesbian. Many European countries kissing someone when they first see you and when they are saying goodbye is a normal thing to do. To assume something about someone before knowing something about who they are is wrong. We need to analyze things and the people around us before we judge them. For decades Americans have been passing judgment upon people without taking the time to get to know who they are as a person. …show more content…
For example, there was a kid named Trevon Martin who was killed by a man for walking down a street, late at night. In the case of Trayvon martin, martin was killed by a man who suspected him of doing something because he was walking through the neighborhood look at all the houses. Just because someone is looking around while walking outside at night in the dark, does not mean they are doing something wrong. Martin was a young African American boy who was visiting his relatives in a gated community in Sanford, Florida. The night martin was killed he was coming from 7 eleven, with an ice tea and a bag of skittles heading home, when Zimmerman started following him. At first Zimmerman called the police to report that a suspicious man was walking down his street, while he was following him. In the 911 call the officer asked him, “Are you following him?” he responded “yes”, the officer told him, “we don’t need you to do that”. If the police told someone to not follow someone why would that person continue to follow that person do that without intending to do something to that person. Mr. Zimmerman judged on Trevon Martin without knowing what he was doing on that

With the widespread national media coverage of the Treyvon Martin shooting, facts can be easily misconstrued and bring about prejudices on the case in its entirety and also George Zimmerman. What was tragic incident turned into a highly publicized phenomenon. Facts and specifics of the case should be private and the amount of time from indictment to trial is detrimental to a fair trial, a sixth amendment right under the United States Constitution. The circumstances surrounding Martin’s death, combined with the initial decision not to charge Zimmerman after detainment and questioning by police, along with a query and examination of Florida’s “Stand Your Ground”…

Ever been accused of manslaughter or been called a racist?Well, George Zimmerman has, in the Trayvon Martin case. Many people believe that if you are accused of murder like George Zimmerman does. They will just call you a racist and a murderer. Opinion and facts is a big part of this case, and obviously, he was the one who kill Trayvon Martin. However, he still has pleaded not guilty because he claims that it was just self-defense and not murder. Eventually, Zimmerman won the case because verdict found him not guilty, and a jury of six women found him also not guilty. I think that some people didn’t believe about Zimmerman claim; at the same time, some people may believe it.…

The problem that the world does not understand is: We were not there; who are we to even have a comment about whether George Zimmerman was in the right for killing young Trayvon Martin? Last weekend, Washington Post writer, Gene Weingarten tweeted, “I don’t like George Zimmerman, and he caused this to happen, but from what I read, he will and should walk.” The fact of the matter is, Justin Peters, of the Slate.com blogs, agreed with this opinion in his article, by stating, “I think that they’re right.”…

First, I would like to bring to your attention that George Zimmerman was found not Guilty of the murder of Trayvon Martin under the 'Stand your ground law' This law which is placed gives individuals the right to use deadly force to defend themselves without having to retreat from a dangerous situation However, When Zimmerman called 911 and explained to the police department about the suspicious of Trayvon Martin the police officer informed him not to follow yet Zimmerman continue to follow him after the dispatcher told him there was no need to do so Surely if George Zimmerman after calling a dispatch unit because he felt unsafe why did he feel the need to then follow the young teenager he is now inserting himself into what he declared to be a dangerous situation Knowing full well that he was armed, Zimmerman followed Trayvon in his car AND on foot meaning he left his car making the decision to bring his gun in order to pursue and confront someone Here you can see he was clearly wanting trouble. he was ordered not to follow him. But he did so he has no right to claim self-defense. He was asking for a fight and he got one, with a kid he thought to be dangerous. we can clearly see George Zimmerman was the instigator and placing himself into this position and then use the act of self defense to justify murder of an innocent unarmed teenager. I don't think he set out to shoot Treyvon Martin, but in the end, he did and that was his choice he was warned not to approach the boy and decided to neglect the warning and take it into his own hands he simply took advantage of an opportunity trying to play the part of a…

To start, there is no on-the-table evidence to prove that Zimmerman had clear intentions to kill Martin. Due to the spontaneity of the occurrence, there is no way that Zimmerman could have possibly planned premeditated murder. There were no bystanders that can accurately depict the scenario. Some claimed that they seen Martin on top of Zimmerman which is not sufficient evidence to prove that either party was at fault. To counter argue, one could say that Zimmerman should have not been following him to begin with. However, if he feels that there is an issue, he has every right to report so. There is no evidence that can prove that either party was of wrong-doing. There are simply only small fragments of the occurrence that can be recalled from the witnesses and the phone call to 911 that Zimmerman…

A lot of things took place on the night of June 26, 2012 in the dispute between George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin. No one knows exactly what happened on this night besides the two individuals involved. I believe since Trayvon Martin is now dead and is unable to tell his story; he needed people to fight for his justice. After a trial ruled by 6 women on the jury stand, George Zimmerman was acquitted of his charges of the killing of Trayvon Martin. I believe Zimmerman should have been guilty for the killing of Trayvon Martin. I believe the fact that Zimmerman was found not guilty makes it appear okay to the public to open fire on people when in an altercation. Trayvon Martin’s family fought hard for his justice, although it was not served, it made people aware of the things taking place in our…

Racial tension and gun violence has been present throughout the history of the U.S., but it has recently been given a spotlight in the killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The young African American teenager was visiting his father and went out to the gas station to buy food, while on his way back, he felt like he was being watched and followed. After he decided to run, Trayvon was "confronted, shot, and killed near [the home he was residing in]." Gunman, George Zimmerman, frequently notified the police on many accounts. He supposedly noticed someone "suspicious" in his neighborhood, and Trayvon Martin happened to be that suspicious individual. His murder was evidently a hate crime, due to all the police reports that state that a majority of the suspected individuals Zimmerman spotted were black males. This case acted as a stimulus for people to reunite and attempt to make some change. Many people began losing trust in the system and acknowledging the…

Discrimination in any case is a disrespectful and despicable. It doesn’t matter or is about color, religion social class, or birth country. In my opinion judging others, a person only because these characteristics only could came from an ignorant person. Wasn’t discrimination the reason which unleashed a World War? Additionally, wasn’t not discrimination the main reason of the Ku Klux Klan to execute another human being? It’s time to reflect and change these judgmental attitude. So, I agree with Shakan, found his essay and observation about this issue by Americans, very well…

Would you kill a stray pet if it came into your yard? Most people wouldn’t. Trayvon Martin could have simply been a man just taking a shortcut home. Martin was just walking through the neighborhood. Zimmerman assumed he was a thug or one of the people breaking into the homes. Zimmerman got out of his car assuming that Trayvon wasn’t supposed to be there or that he could not possibly live there or close by. You can not just watch and follow someone and not…

Coming from someone who you can easily catch walking around with a drink and candy in hand while wearing a hoodie on I have never once thought I might look suspicious and end up murdered from these actions. Luckily, I am white and not the main attraction for suspicious activity as those who are black. This common assumption really bothers me, because there are bad people out there and there are good people as well, but the color of their skin doesn’t define if you’re good or bad. Trayvon Martin never showed any suspicious behavior to proceeded Zimmerman to think he was about to partake in a violent crime. Crime is a violation of a norm that has been codified into law. No matter, what the ruling was there is no way to go around the fact that…

This incident could easily be him 35 years ago as a young person dealing with racism in America. Concern that African Americans think that this case developed on race. A belief in the legal system would have a different outcome if Trayvon were white. Even after juror number B37 came out stating that race had no issue to the outcome of the case. Both the jury and legal experts stated that Zimmerman and Trayvon made poor judgment the night, which led to the death of Trayvon. Statements by the jury referring the only reason for Zimmerman 's acquittal because the way the "stand your ground" law is written. This article also provided some good highlighted points. The president encouraged his audience to support and encourage the young people of this country by helping them achieve and succeed in life. To be more influential and guide them on the right track. On February 26, 2012 Trayvon Martin died because George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman, shot him. Today many debate on how this happened. Did this happen because of racial issues or because of the Stand your ground law? Isaiah Muhammad explains in his article that Trayvon martin didn’t die due to the Stand Your Ground Law, he died because he was murdered for being a black guy with a hoodie on. Bill Cosby thinks otherwise, he believes that it had to do with the stand your ground law and the fact that Zimmerman had a gun. Although Bill Cosby has a valid point, the real issue in the Trayvon martin case is racism.…

Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube are just a few social media outlets that along with 24-hour news gives the opportunity for people to see what’s going on in communities all over the world. Increased media attention chronicling incidences of police brutality on unarmed blacks has increased visibility, awareness, and subsequently sparked outrage in minority communities in the United States (U.S.). The 16-year-old Spring Valley high school student dragged out of her desk and slung across a classroom by a police officer for not putting her phone away in class, Philando Castile being shot in front of his fiancé and four-year-old daughter for reaching for his wallet, Terence Crutcher shot with his hands in the air in the middle of a Oklahoma road, as well as the fatal shootings of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, and Eric Garner are only a few of the countless cases, resulting in acquittal for the perpetrator, where individuals have lost their lives or have been terrorized by police over the past few years which indicates that there is a serious flaw in the judicial system.…
