“Remember the Titans” Project Report Remember the Titans is a American sports movie directed by Boaz Yakin. The movie is based on a true story of Afro-American coach Herman Boone, who make an effort against racisim in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971. In this report the movie evaluated within the contex of Organizational Behaviour concepts. At the begining of the movie, white and black players of the teams cultural and characteristic diversifications clearly stated. These diversifications creates a completely new character to the Titan Team under the coaching of Coach Boone. Team players realize that they can come together to do something special despite of their diversifications. If we examine these diversifications;white players are high power distance in constrast with black players. White players think that there is a social statue differences between blacks and whites. Individualism is more important for white players beside black players are more collectivist, always try to take an action with team vision. Football is based on masculanity in this case both black and white players wants to prove their masculanity to each other. Competition, ambition, power, success we can see all these masculanity factors entire scene of the movie. White players has high uncertainty avoidence instead of black players, they don’t want to take a risk and solve the problems by themself.
Black players are Short-term oriented, they are impatient and result-oriented on the otherhand white players are focus on stabilized improvement. Under these diversifications the players realize harmony and Titan Team has creates its own cultural values, with a starting of the camp.

Titans start to become a team, Coach Boone was realize the racial conflicts against eachother. He forced the team to share their room with different races and get them try to know eachother and wanted a feedback form his players. This tactics generates a low power distace value for Titans. In the movie, Remember the Titans, it’s about both races; black and white coming together as a team and come together as a family. This film really exploits America’s football and I believe that’s how this team really brought people of both races together. By combining America's love for football and the hatred of one another's race it showed people that race didn’t really matter, we all play the same way. Although the film was very touching and powerful in its message, there are a few things displayed in the movie that does not match up with the history.…

Using music to convey that the team is together, and when they are together, they overcome conflict between the two prejudice communities. An example of this is when Gary and his team warm up in the third game by singing and dancing along to a song called “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” by Steam to show that they have finally come together and overcome conflict that happened after camp. Another conflict that Gary has faced due to the tension is his mother doesn’t approve of him associating with a black male and ends up leaning towards his mother and abandoning the team. He overcomes this after realising that they are a team and he shouldn’t treat them any different than before in the team meeting in the gym. The director uses music to show the bond created by the two races in the team. The lesson I learned was that if you work together as a team then you will finally conquer everything. There really is no ‘i’ in ‘team’.…

This investigation gives a few vital bits of knowledge into both commonplace and novel structures of racial inclination in games analysis. To begin with, games analysts reliably surrounded White competitors, thought about to non-White players, regarding their mental capacities. The utilization of this mental edge has been a predictable generalization in games critique furthermore the study strengthens these past discoveries to a wonderful degree. Non-White Athletes are more often given props for their athletic ability using terms such as “born athlete” and “natural ability”. These stereotypes of these athletes are widely used among different publications and in different regions.…

In Remember The Titans, the whites in America are the dominant race. As mentioned above, at the beginning of the film, TC Williams high school is an all white school until the blacks are newly immigrated into the high school. The football team, specifically, was dominated by white players and coaches. However, when the african american Coach Boone is transferred to T. C. from North Carolina to help coach, things seem to change drastically for the team and the town. To the african american community, Coach Boone is seen as as a voice for not only african american athletes searching for their opportunity to play football for the team, but for the african american’s across the community. On the other hand, when Coach Boone is hired as head coach…

One of the major reasons for this is that diversity is not conceived as an organizational priority. The story of the Titans reminds us about the benefits that diversity can bring to an organization (creativity, innovation, added problem solving etc.). Even though managing diversity and cultural change in general is a painful process to any organization, the benefits it brings usually exceeds the efforts it requires. In order for organizational leaders and managers not to have inaccurate stereotypes and prejudice, a deep knowledge and respect of different cultures is essential. Even though diversity is still an issue today, it is less of a problem than it was before and society is more aware of the importance of treating diverse people fairly. However, the word “fairly” is sometimes misunderstood in our modern society. One of the most important points made in this movie in my opinion is coach Boone explaining coach Yoast the true meaning of treating diversity fairly when coach Yoast supports African American players with special attention: “I may be a mean cuss, but I am the same mean cuss with everybody out there on that football team field. The world don’t give a damn about how sensitive these kids are – especially the young black kids. You ain’t doing these kids a favor by patronizing them. You’re crippling them. You’re crippling them for life.” By this quote, coach Boone explains that treating diverse employees (people in general) fairly doesn’t mean treating them with special attention or support, it means considering them full-time members of the community/organization and equating them to other non-diverse members at all…

‘Remember the Titans’ is set in Virginia, 1971. It explores numerous forms of racial prejudice and discrimination. The opening scenes, particularly the information regarding a white shopkeeper murdering a black man and not being found guilty, emphasizes one of the main themes of this film- racial discrimination. Another incident in the film that supports this theme is the reactions of the T.C Williams High School football team to the news of a new black coach, receiving the position of head coach of their team. One of the players remarked that he wouldn’t play with those ‘black animals.’ His attitude represents the general attitude within the white members of the town, and the belief that the schools should not be integrated.…

Suburban Virginia schools have been segregated for generations, in sight of the Washington Monument over the river in the nation's capital. One Black and one White high school are closed and the students sent to T.C. Williams High School under federal mandate to integrate. The year is perceived through the eyes of the football team where the man hired to coach the Black school is made head coach over the highly successful white coach. Based on the actual events of 1971, the team becomes the unifying symbol for the community as the boys and the adults learn to depend on and trust each other. Remember the Titians was based on a true story of the major events that took place in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971 when African-American football coach Herman Boone was hired to guide an integrated, but racially split with the high school team T.C. Williams Titans. Angry, stubborn and a stiff employer, Boone faces a casual reception from the team's players as well as an awkward relationship with assistant coach Bill Yoast, a local white man with advantage and a tradition of winning who was bypassed for the job. It is clearly established that Bill has feelings of revulsion for having to be an assistant under a black man. As the two men learn to overcome their ignorance, they realize that they have much in common like integrity, honor, and a strong work ethic. They work together to transform an angry group of unfocused players into a dynamic winning team of responsible young men. Throughout the process, they managed to show their individuality from a divided community and ensure that Virginia will always “Remember the Titans.”…

Minority professionals in sports have to deal with more than being accepted in the sports industry, they have to deal with their own social identity.
