This year Canada is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the peom In Flander's Fields by John McCrae. Veterans Canada has created beautiful bookmarks and posters of a single poppy, the poem and McCrae's signature.

(Gorgeous poster. All time favourite.)

I have always wanted to make a 3D display but wanted to start small. I found a poppy template

If you turn right and walk ahead, on the left is our fourth exhibit. This is the Order of Canada medal which Terry Fox received on June 28, 1981. This medal was the embodiment of what he had accomplished in his fight against cancer. As you can see, the medal is outlined with the colours of Canada: red and white. According to the Office of the Secrety to the Governor General, the insignia of the Order is a stylized six point snowflake, with a red centre bearing a stylized maple leaf. The motto surrounding the maple leaf is “DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM”, which translates to “They desire a better country”(The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General). On the top, the red centre is finished with the Royal Crown. The entire medal is composed…

“In Flanders Fields” is concerned with remembrance for those who died in a glorious, and important battle that was worth fighting for, and asks people, both soldiers and Canadian citizens, to both remember the dead and continue the fight. After witnessing the death of his friend, John McCrae wanted soldiers to never be forgotten. On the other hand, in the poem “Dulce et Decorum Est,” Owen describes the horror and ugliness of the war. There was no glory to be had, hence the last verse, “To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie; Dulce et Decorum est
Pro patria mori,” which basically states that you would not tell your children that the war was glorious. The poem “In Flanders Fields” glorifies the war, while “Dulce et Decorum Est” is a warning against…

The day reporting center programs are a form of probation. The concept of probation was created by John Augustus, who was a Boston shoemaker, and was credited with being the “Father of Probation”. Augustus noticed through what took place in courts that minor offenders and alcohol abusers were sent to jail because of the inability to pay off fines. Being offended and disturbed by this action, Augustus made an agreement with authorities to pay off the offenders fines and give them friendly supervision. Between 1841 and 1858, Augustus bailed out about 2,000 men, women, and children. Through friendliness, confidence, and helping the offender obtain jobs while aiding their family, he was able to report on progress toward reformation and keep the…

Pre-O helped me transition because it helped me make friends before classes started. While everyone else were attempting to make new friends the students of Pre-O already formed bonds and found friends. It also helped me become familiar with the campus. The rest of the incoming freshmen were struggling during orientation because they didn't have the advantage that we did. They asked us all types of questions such as 'Where is Modlin?', 'What is the quickest way to get back to the dorms?', and so on. All in all, it was just a nice feeling to be able to knowledgeable and not have to struggle with new surroundings.…

ick one day every other week (or at least once a month) and schedule it into your calendar as a personal ‘Reset Day.’ The purpose of a ‘reset day’ is to give you a mini, one-day vacation. By taking an entire day off, you help support the release of toxic energy and stress in your body while also giving your body time to rest. A ‘reset day’ just as any wellness ritual you integrate into your life, will help cleanse your mind and body, and encourage permanent weight loss.…

I was able to observe the members of the Oklahoma International Seventh-day Adventist Church during three church services and fellowships for my observation project. During this time, I focused on three main points: their justification for their particular set of beliefs, what they believe sets them apart from the beliefs of other denominations, and if there are any old belief systems that no longer apply to the modern world. Seventh-day Adventists are a group of Christians that worship on the Saturday, the seventh day. They believe that their day of worship is correct due to the fourth commandment in the Bible. The fourth commandment commands people to keep the seventh day, Sabbath holy and to honor it. It is a day set aside to focus completely on God. During this observation I was introduced to a new concept of "righteousness by faith". Seventh-day Adventists believe this distinguishes them from all other religions and denominations. Righteousness by Faith consists of three parts: repentance, faith in God for atonement of sins, and grace that allows people to obey the laws of God. When I asked if…

Remembrance Day means something different to everyone but I don't feel enough emphasizes is taught to today's generation. Kids find it boring to stand around in the cold November air listening to sombre music and speeches of respect. Maybe if people in general would “ stop to smell the poppies” there would be less continuous fighting and terrorism today.Wars of our past soldiers apparently never taught this…

November 11th is a day dedicated to recognizing America’s Veterans. We remember the history of our country, along with the challenges and the victories they have helped us to achieve. From the Revolutionary war in 1775 to most recently the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, America’s Veterans have fought for our liberty. In the Washington Post, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, said that veterans coming back from recent combat, “have come back to a nation that has embraced them-warmly, strongly, positively- and put tremendous value and appreciation into their service. That is so important.”…

Reflection is an active process that helps health care professional gain a deeper understanding of their experiences (Varghese, 2010). This essay will discuss about the academic achievements which were obtained during the last semester through a reflective model. The reflective model I have chosen is Gibbs's model (1988).
