Religion and pressure essay
For anyone and everyone, religion is a touchy subject that has affected us all in some way or another. Imagine a young child being forced to go to long, boring, dry services every Sunday week after week, year after year. Now imagine that same young child getting tucked away in the corner of the pews about 45 min into first praise and just completely being knocked out asleep, week after week, year after year and every time being reprimanded for it. There would be no fighting the sleepiness, there would be no bedtime given that could sate the exhaustion, there would be no punishment severe enough to prevent it (although having to stand up in the middle of church would be a pretty embarrassing sentence). With all this said and done one might think that the boy would do next would be is A: lose interest in the church for the most part if not entirely and B: once of age to make decisions for himself just no longer go anymore. An amalgam of stifling who one is, being forced to do something or be somewhere that they had no interest in, and being punished for what they had no control over would breed a certain resentment of sorts towards religion itself. A youth’s life, influenced by major and minor experiences in a religious setting is basically the same for every person who’s ever been in a church. This young kids early struggle can easily be likened to the struggles of the young boys in the stories “The Butterfly” by James Hanley and “The Boy Who Drew Cats” by Lafcadio Hearn whereas both the main protagonists were young, curious, simple and innocent. Both had their own experiences with the church and those of the cloth which made them entirely different people growing up with one being a negative and condescending setting and the other one being a positive and supportive one. If the role had been reversed a person would wonder how differently would the boys have grown up or better yet how did the two upbringings in the church setting and authority affect them and
